Thanks to this thread, i discovered I'm now old enough to understand and like Tortoise... finally!

They remind me of Jaga Jazzist at times, by the way...

Tortoise da bes.

If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it. They're incredible. Makes me wish every band had two drummers.

And also Trans Am.

Also, I've been operating under the assumption that you already listen to Oneida.

But that may not be the case.

OoooooooooooooooooHHHHHHHHHHHNEIDA!!!!!!

Thank you for reminding me that I need more Oneida in my life.

Also, hell yes Trans Am.

I was gonna suggest The World Is, but then you said "not angsty", so I'll just be making my exit.

I see some people have already mentioned Vessels and Brontide, which are both brilliant (on record but FANTASTIC live) bands.
As far as instrumental stuff goes I haven't got a lot to offer but my favourite band ever, Oceansize, should definitely be given a chance. I wouldn't call them post-rock as they mix to many styles but there's definitely a bit of post-rock in them.

(All right, this has vocals, but they're kind of submerged/subdued - a lot of other Ganger stuff doesn't)

Zach Barocas (ex-Jawbox) has a new(ish) project called BELLS≥ that kinda works in a more angular version of that mold:

Fuck... My long ass post is gone.

Love your recs dude!

I say check out:
Grails
Tristeza
Do Make Say Think
Set Fire to Flames
The Stranger
The Caretaker
Rachel's
Thee Silver Mt. Zion

And yea, I pretty much hate the whole math/post rock Russian Circles type stuff. No offense and I'm probably in the minority.

I feel like I'm in the minority here with this one for some reason, but I think that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez makes some pretty cool shit. It's not all instrumental, by any means, but it's more or less pretty diverse and some of it doesn't sound like anyone else I can think of. Just take a dig through his bandcamp page; the dude is super-prolific.

came in to say these. And I'm hell over this stuff, it turned into 'indie rock without the words'. Could argue for days about how something so interesting became so goddamn traditionalist and WHITE. But anyway.

Listen to Grails. Listen to everything they've done and try and see them live. They're like the soundtrack to the best mutant sci fi spaghetti western that's never been made.

Solar Gambling is one of my favorites by him. "Unicorn Skeleton Mask" might be my number one though. The Power of Myth is great too. Fuck it, I like 99% of his stuff.
