Im playing very loud, i registered 127db in the band room recently
Stacked with the Supercollider it does sound pretty good, but its more like it supercharges the Supercollider rather than adding its own voice.

This transparency is one of the very things that make the Pharaoh awesometheAntihero wrote:

It took me a very VERY long time to get used to the eq controls of the Pharaoh. Different diode settings have a huge effect on the range of tones, and when your eq sounds awesome with one setting, that same eq arrangement will most likely not sound good when using other diode settings. I always recommend peeps pick one (Ge/None/Si) and then spend a good amount of time with the volume @ 3:00 MINIMUM while messing with the tone and high controls...before chucking it overboard. Those controls are just so incredibly interactive.
All this being said, it is NOT a high gainer. It does sound like a LSTR might be more what you're after...although LSTR doesn't have nearly the output of the Pharaoh, and is far more limited in its range of sounds.
Special low-frequency version.

rather than volume i'd suggest less watts, harder to cook 150w than it is to cook 30/50 watts. I personally wouldn't want to run the pharaoh into a clean amp that doesn't break up.theAntihero wrote:I live in the woods and play damn loud thru 4 cabs and 150w tube watts, believe me volume isnt the problem.
it could be that it's not for you
Actually im running it loud enough to start breaking up, not much but i vastly prefer to run fuzz into a slightly broken up amp.

Secret of the Pharaoh:
Bridge Humbucker -> Pharaoh -> Slightly dirty, loud tube amp. Extra points for pushing the pharaoh with a bright OD or boost of some sort.
Settings:
Tone: 9 o'clock
Highs: 3 o'clock
Fuzz: up full (I know that others will dispute this, but the Pharaoh gets muddy with it lower, similar to a Fuzz Face)
Volume: to taste (at least at noon, though).
Input impedance: High
Diodes: Sil.

Re: Im not bonding with my Pharaoh
I didn't mesh with mine either. But it really ended up not being what I was looking for when I bought it. I kind of hoped it would do the squishy response of my old muff as well as brighter boostish things. Nope.
If you want your tone more loud, dark, thick and woolly, then it's probably your bag. I needed it to be clearer than it was and it wasn't. It's not a bad pedal but if you want something other than what it has to offer you'll want something else. I ended up with one of Greyscales old germanium Rangemaster clones, and that was the ticket for me. Full frequency boost is nice and woolly, everything else is cutting and thick. Pretty clean boost, but can be set to old school germanium fuzz sounds. (I don't think there is any cascading going on it the circuit either, but I've never opened it up to check).
If I was you, I'd look for some kind of filter/EQ or variable frequency boost and try running it before and after your SC instead. I always got the impression that the SC was gainier and I don't get owning more than one boutique muff anyway.
