These things are pretty awesome. I've been super pleased with Squier the past year-year and half. I hope they keep it up - would love to see some other unique offshoots like the Cabronitas.

Yeah I wanted to give that one a shot too but none of the local stores carried it, and I didn't want to gamble on the bridge pickup. It was still pretty hard to choose between a bridge filtertron and a Bigsby, since both rule supreme.

By the by, do any of you have experience with concentric knobs? I love the brightness of this guitar but it would be nice to have a tone control to mellow things out. Figure I could put a concentric volume/tone knob in the space without drilling.

I've only had experience with the concentric knobs on my old Squier VM Jag bass, but they weren't for me.
Granted, one of them was faulty from the factory. That says something about the reliability to me.
Check out the value of the pots first. It's possible, if unlikely, that they are 500k. If so, lower them to 250k and they should be a bit less bright.

Yeah I haven't heard good things about their reliability, either. Hmm.
I wouldn't want to change the overall brightness of the pickups by changing the whole pot value. Mostly I just want to be able to roll it back.

I had them on my old Jag HH. They were pretty irritating, despite being Alphas. I don't personally recommend them unless they're absolutely necessary.friendship wrote:By the by, do any of you have experience with concentric knobs? As someone who's removed the gloss from many a maple neck, do not use steel wool. Green Scotchbrite pads from the grocery store are perfect, and $2-3 for a two pack! Pop off the neck, go sit outside somewhere and gently (do not use much pressure) run the pad the length of the neck a few times. You want to keep the base coats of the finish, just not the sticky gloss crap. After a few runs with the scouring pad, the shine will dull a little. That's usually fine. Leave the fretboard alone.
