1970's psych
I'm looking for good 70's psych like hawkwind, pink Floyd, zappa etc. Even jazz stuff like herbie hancock "headhunters". I know all the big names. What are some lesser known bands from this era?

You should take a peek at the Krautrock thread, you may find some good stuff there:

^ I knew you'd be in here, Chank:-)
Spacefuzz, check out the Edgar Broughton Band - from what you listed, I reckon you'll dig them. All their records are great.

But my favourite 70s psych is Mexican: Los Dug Dug's. First album is amazing, second album, "Smog" (1972), is even better. Fuzz tonez up the yin-yang (or the Mexican equivalent of the yin-yang).

Um i tend to consider a lot of things psychedelic, so i don't know, but
definitely Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, Miles Davis (stuff like Big Fun for example), Gong
but i presume those are the ones you already know

I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

Killer! A new "homework" thread for me. I'll need some chill downtime to scope all this out.

OMG, you love Los Dug Dugs and I can't say I blame you.HorseyBoy wrote:... But my favourite 70s psych is Mexican: Los Dug Dug's. First album is amazing, second album, "Smog" (1972), is even better. Fuzz tonez up the yin-yang (or the Mexican equivalent of the yin-yang).
Great suggestions, Horsey.
I'll also make a pitch for some Jamaican psych, some of that stuff's pretty

Also obviously AMT

The incomparable Flower Travellin Band.

Its a shame man...japanese psych reeeeally is the best psych but so much of it has been lost to timer just confined to japanese psych gurus that keep their knowledge to themselves. Just look at yamahas back catalog of electric guitars from the time. If that isn't proof enough that the entire country was taken over by psych i don't know what to tell you.
some english stuff...

I think this was a band full of krauts, with an English singer... this album fucking rips but like a motherfucker but everything else I've heard from them fucking suuuuuuuuuuuucks. ONLY self-titled is real....THEBEERHAMMER wrote:some english stuff...

I personally can't suggest the Taj-Mahal Travellers and Far East Family Band if you're looking for Japanese stuff.....
Outside of traditional "psych" if you haven't ventured into the Swedish prog scene I can't suggest that enough. Parson Sound, (International) Harvester, Trad Gras Och Stenar, Algarnas Tradgard, Trettioariga Kriget, Baby Grandmothers, plus lots of other obscurities to check out.....
Speaking of Japanese psych, I am selling my collection of Acid Mothers Temple CDs, like 15+ and I'm too lazy to do the discogs route because of all the names they go under and what a hassle it will be to recoup, if anyone wants to buy in bulk let me know, I'll sell them for a reasonable rate as a bulk package..... if not I'm dumping them at the used store...... in a couple weeks.....
Or I'd trade for a pedal..... hmmmm......
