Re: BitQuest! Read page 28 for cool new idea to implement..
Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I'm all done making pedals for 2013, shipping the last ones today, and now we're gonna spend the next couple days at mom's. Then I'm gonna BitQuest for the rest of the year, take a week to perfect the clean patches and the pcb. *knocks on head*
The fun/tough thing about the clean patches is that some of them will need 2 controls added.. since some of them have a wet/dry mix for the fuzz/effect or a wet level control, those controls are useless clean since you have the analog wet/dry mix and volume. So I'll need to come up with 2 controls for patches like the flanger and the ring mod. The flanger is easy, I already have the 2 controls finished, but the ring mod is tougher since it's so crazy by itself with just a rate control. I think in its case one knob will be a touch of reverb knob, so you can make the ring mod a lil spacier, I think I'll do stuff like that to flesh out the clean patches when another control isn't immediately obvious or do-able.
So take the flanger patch for example.. in dirty mode the controls would go: CTRL0 (gain), CTRL1 (rate), CTRL2 (wet level). In clean mode it'll go: CTRL0 (pos/neg regen), CTRL1 (rate), CTRL2 (delay time) probably, I think, could change, but you get the idea..
Other patches will be like that too, they'll have slightly different controls clean vs dirty, with the controls oriented towards making the effect most powerful/useful in that situation, ie with distortion or not.. but I don't have the new controls figured out yet, that'll be the big part of this week..
Also, check this out.. this is banshee sparkle, a wild green finish that changes colour in different light.. we're thinking this for the first powder coat, with gold screen print, very adventurous text, hopefully a battle axe...

It did come from 4Site! I figured that was Jacob's hand there! You ok with me using that colour too in January/February or would you prefer I wait a bit? Also, Jamie, will you please come over here and teach me to program? *big smile* Frig this stuff is hard! (I complement your/your crew's programming work a few times in this thread, I think you guys are the Spin Masters!)

Ha! Of course, use away. Jacob sent us a Disaster SR enclosure in that color last year and I have been trying to use it ever since. I think the name is a huge selling point. We actually almost used a gold ink too but we ended up using white. I am very very far from a programming master, just an idea dude who works with a programming master. I've tried over and over again to understand programming and it induces a mental break down every time. I've gotten to a point where I understand almost everything that goes on and what it takes to make it tick though so at least I'm making progress

Thanks Jamie! Too true, you put Banshee on something and you've got my attention, ha!
I'm really blown away by the Spin.. it's been one year now that I've been learning it and I still get hung up all the time on stuff. I find programming really hard but really cool. It's so close to being crazy powerful hey... imagine if it had double the control inputs and double the program memory.. or some way to scale those things to whatever a person needed, it would compete with the power of the big guys' processors. I always wonder what the future holds for the Spin.. will it be expanded, kept the same for decades, discontinued next year.. my wonders and worries.
Nice chatting with you and I'll be looking forward to your Banshee Sparkle pedal, hope you guys have a killer 2014!

Re: BitQuest! Read page 28 for cool new idea to implement..
New pcb is finished and proto ordered, will be here in a few days or so! Clean patches are coming along nicely! Here's what I've got so far with them:
Patch 1 - Flanger - Kept the rate control that goes to 0 for manual. Added a feedback knob that's positive or negative depending on knob position and can oscillate at extreme settings. Added a delay time knob that goes from really short to quite long, works in manual mode to vary the comb filter.
Patch 2 - HP + LP Filters - Kept the high pass and low pass controls. Added a resonance control that can oscillate when full.
Patch 3 - BitCrusher - still working on this one, it's so full of code already that it's tough to change anything at all, especially since some of the crushes are so quiet that they need a ton of make-up volume ala the gain knob. Might not be any different from the dirty BQ bitcrusher patch.
Patch 4 - Digi-Delay - Haven't futzed with this yet, might add modulation.. was gonna add a touch of reverb but that eats up the maximum delay time available.. might drop it to 750ms with a nice reverb on the repeats...
Patch 5 - Notch Filter - Kept the notch frequency control, kept the q control. Added a modulation rate knob that sweeps the notch filter, weird sounding phaser kinda effect.
Patch 6 - Ring Modulator - Kept the main frequency rate control. Added a modulation rate knob that sweeps the main frequency control, like turning it up and down manually, sounds really weird and cool. Added a reverb level knob, reverb plus ring mod is cool.
Patch 7 - Pitch Shifter - Kept the main pitch control knob that goes from one octave down to one octave up. Added a second identical control. Added a mix control that mixes between the two pitch controls, so you can have one octave down on one knob, one octave up the other knob, and mix the output between the two.
Patch 8 - Reverb - Kept the decay time control, infinite and beyond to oscillating. Added a pre-delay control, about 100ms. I'm still experimenting with this but I've added a modulation control that is like turning the pre-delay knob up and down.. it makes a dramatic pitch shift sound while in motion and it's really really weird sounding. Maybe too weird to keep but I like it.. still messing with it...
