Alright so I've been really amazed by some of the (oh who am I kidding, ALL of the) Make Noise modules, so I've been redesigning my rack.

Now one thing I'm confused about, a lot of the Make Noise modules list multiple features that it can do... does that mean they can do them simultaneously, or only one at a time?

For instance, the Maths says it can do Envelope Generation, produce LFO, produce Clock, *and* be a Mixer... but can it do those things simultaneously? If so, I'd much rather buy something like that rather than get a bunch of separate Doepfer modules I'd end up replacing within a year anyway.

Toying with the idea of something like this but maybe with a different controller and oscillator combo...

I've had the same question about a lot of the Make Noise modules and definitely feel the same way.
I read somewhere that the modDemix and Optomix combo work well as VCAs but will always be modulating your sound, so you might be interested in a more "standard" VCA
In my case, I'm mostly wondering if the DPO can pull double duty as an osc and an lfo at the same time.

I've got another redesign of my planned rack too:

I think I'm finally happy with it so maybe it will be the last redesign until I can save enough to buy it.
I also found out I can buy it all at Moog Audio in Toronto, which is kind of local, but I'd have to buy the PM Cell 90 and a Dual Borg, which is terrible for my wallet but awesome for dual filter :idk:

This is where I am thinking I want to end up. Add the Moddemix, switch out my DIY multiples for a more slim version, and drop in the Doepfer Offset/Attenuation module as well

Don't know if y'all know about this yet, but this is a cool film that I asked for for x-mas:

That looks like a pretty awesome film.
Four hours is a bit extreme though...

oh shit, i have a maths, i should answer this.

yes and no.

so, for all intents and purposes, a looping EG is an LFO, right? SO, since maths puts out pulses for EOR and EOC, chs 1 and 4 respectively i think, you have periodic clock generation when you are using maths as an LFO/looping EG/whatever. maths is, kinda a pain in the ass, unless you have a good idea how to program it, a more traditional eg/lfo might be desirable, that being said, it's insanely versatile, and when it's good, it's real fucking good.

I kind of want to get a function so I can have a cycle that takes 25 minutes to complete so I can just stand there and let it do its thing

After hearing this I'm thinking of switching out the Maths for a Function and a Pittsburgh ADSR and LFO2...more traditional envelop and lfo + still some crazy functions

Also I take back my last comment, I am never going to be happy with my plan

Depending on what you're patching Maths can be either a multi module or a single module if you get me? For example, you could parch it up to be two AD envelopes, or else just an ADSR envelope. It's a seriously powerful and useful module to have, especially in small systems.

Skullservant: did you pic up an Anti Osc in the end, or are those old vids?

I don't have an Anti Osc, just the Noisering. But damnit I love the Noisering. It's brought so much diversity to the system!

Questioning if it would be more beneficial for me to get the Moddemix, or pick up a Function. I really dig the whole self generating type patches, but ring mod would also be cool. But do I need another mixer if I have the Doepfer?

i think the new layout of the noise rings looks very malekko osc

now your're getting it!

naw, maths is great. think of it more simply: you get two AR/LFOs or ADSRish thing plus voltage processing.
