The first serious band I joined I was about 12 years younger than the rest of the members and it worked out pretty good actually, so I don't think its that obscure, and younger people have a tendency to be able to get out more people to shows. So I dunno, am I nuts or should I give the guy a chance?
if the dude can play, the dude can play. I mean, look at it from his angle:

"Yo, this sick stringy thingy dude hit me up on craigslist... but he's old and has kids and a job and stuff."

You got a point, but since the amount of musicians looking to play doom in my area is extremely limited he might be branching out knowing this is probably the inevitability of his request.
deathmonkey wrote:If the kid can handle being a normal person and not act like a giant screwup, i say go for it. It might get weird if he wants to do a show and you have to remind him that you have kids and your daughters 3rd birthday party is that same day... but if they get shit like that i don;t see a problem at all.
Yeah thats the big thing, if he's open to learning about how being a musician really works I'd be willing to basically mentor him to avoid the mistakes I made. But if hes a hot headed swingin dick lookin to do things his way then I'm gonna walk away. Luckily since he's still gotta finish school I think I can get him to focus on the important things such as writing GOOD music, getting a good recording, and then building a fan base while playing minimal shows before we start talking about touring and booking away shows. We'll see though.

Just saw my old 5150 being sold on ebay by the dude I sold it to. I'm really considering getting it back.

Here's a question I've been pondering at work whist I've been forced to listen to the radio: christmas songs. What do you folks have to constantly put up with on the radio in different countries?

There's a few songs that get played endlessly on repeat, they only come out at christmas, and they get annoying really really quickly. For me, christmas starts when I hear this, but compared to some of the tunes, it's pretty awesome.

There are few things I detest more than Christmas music. Not carols or hymns, but the sort of secular, Jinglebells-y, Under The Mistletoe with a gun in my mouth, Here comes Santa Clause nonsense.

And that sort of "Christmas Music" is fucking flooded everywhere from Thanksgiving 'til New Years. Anywhere with a PA and even a modicum of relationship to public space has fucking Christmas music. None of it is good. All of it sucks.

Unless you're counting The Holiday Song by the Pixies. That's acceptable Christmas Music.

We have the same few songs jammed on repeat over and over and over. The same number 1's from the 70s and 80s play on all the radio stations, all the time. Naturally, this is on a radio station whose tagline is "more music variety!"

I do hate having the radio on at work

So its ok for Eyehategod to have a song called, "white [EDITED]" and I can't say hoodrat? Double standards suck!
I think you're kinda joking, but if not...

Nobody has said you can't say hoodrat.
Nobody here gave EyeHateGod "permission" to name that song!
The disturbing part of your comment was not the term hoodrat, it was what you wished would happen to them. I'd never say that about any non-ethically-aligned* category of people.

*i.e. excluding neo-nazis, kiddy fiddlers, whatever.
Alright John, you have a good point there. I'm just going to end this conversation with- I can not stand anyone that subscribes to the "thug life" mentality. Regardless of race and social class.

My sincerest apologies to everyone that I have offended. I'm sorry!
