I do get what you're saying... IMO, if you're gonna clone an exorbitantly-overdpriced pedal (SHO, Klon, etc), it shouldn't still be overpriced.hazelwould wrote:Far too long have companies lived off of the Klone wave. I'd rather see more innovative stuff and not more Klones of Klones.
Seriously, for such a powerhouse, their graphics lately have gotten bad. Like stock clipart bad.woolyh wrote:Also I know it's not that important but EHX should really hire someone to design better art for their pedals, a lot of the new stuff looks terrible >.>

Right. How much would Ryan Summit asked to license his unicorn art?woolyh wrote:Also I know it's not that important but EHX should really hire someone to design better art for their pedals, a lot of the new stuff looks terrible >.>

Just ask Eric(Metasonix). Its not a secret that Mike is in it for the money. I agree, EHX needs to concentrate on forward thinking fx like the super ego/ravish sitar. But you know, $$ signs and klon clone would go hand in hand.

the only thing ive ever liked that ehx did was big boxes, and the new big boxes have kinda sucked lately, last ehx to give me a gas boner was the original hog and pog. been a long time. what used to be a very exciting company seems to be recycling old ideas now and i kinda feel like esp with the graphics they are marketing towards younger kids these days. ehx has gone the ways of boss in my mind. aint nothing wrong with boss, i use an rc300 looper, but its mass produced uninnovative and unloved(at least not made with love) gear. id rather have something made by a small company with love for a little more $. and to be honest i never jived with the ehx sounds.

I've never really been a fan of EHX (IME their QC has been shaky at best and downright nonexistent more often than not) and this is not doing anything to make me change my mind about them. I hope this blows up in their face, both financially and legally.

Always bugs me when builders do that. Maybe in the 90s, but now everyone knows you can just google a brand name and find their site.leaves turn wrote: I question putting the website on the front panel art though...

On the plus side, I imagine these will be dirt cheap second hand. Might grab myself a klone and rehouse it.

With exception of the Freeze/Superego, EHX has become fodder for eye-rolling andTom Dalton wrote:I do get what you're saying... ing. The Tone Tattoo, is one of those horrifically ugly, lame pedals that should be blown out and discontinued because every one is a blemish.
I'm with you on the big boxes. A big part of their allure is the fact that pre-bankruptcy, no 2 are exactly alike. You can open up a dozen of any Muff, EM, DMM etc and upon comparing the circuit board you'll see *substitutions* were made here and there with regards to which diodes and caps were used where and how many (substituting 2 of a kind for 1 of another).fishtankdork wrote:the only thing ive ever liked that ehx did was big boxes, and the new big boxes have kinda sucked lately, last ehx to give me a gas boner was the original hog and pog. been a long time. what used to be a very exciting company seems to be recycling old ideas now and i kinda feel like esp with the graphics they are marketing towards younger kids these days. ehx has gone the ways of boss in my mind. aint nothing wrong with boss, i use an rc300 looper, but its mass produced uninnovative and unloved(at least not made with love) gear. id rather have something made by a small company with love for a little more $. and to be honest i never jived with the ehx sounds.
The builders used whichever parts they grabbed that were (close to) within spec...and being that all electronics are not equal, this leads to deviation and supposed *mojo* in certain units, in certain rigs where others sound good but not magical like the special ones. It's like a quest for the grail.
The modern big boxes and XO series abandon this bricoleur experimentation for standardized, cost-efficient production. They're pretty much all the same inside. Hear one example of their new pedals, you've heard them all. That's really sad...along with the fact they're seemingly disposable like dollar store products.
The old ones could easily be modded/repaired and hold their value on the used market, or appreciate as assets. Not-so with the micro component surface mount shit. And at ~65bucks new, repair costs for even a simple component failure practically render the pedal "totaled"
