Filtertron neck p90 bridge

Post by scienceman »

So I decided I hate normal gibson stlye humbuckers. I have a hagstrom d2f tremar, which is basically a semi hollow LP, and I'm gonna swap the pickups. This combo seems cool to me, nice bright neck pickup, warm bridge pickup. The wierd thing is I've only ever seen the reverse with the filtertron in the bridge and the p90 in the neck. What do you think good idea, or terrible idea?

yeah I think that's an awesome idea. I was thinking of doing this a couple years ago but never went through with it. P-90 will have more bite which will be useful in the bridge position, and Filtertron will be rounder/thicker which will be useful in the neck.

Good idea.

I like it the other way around though: warm neck, bright bridge.

I was thinking about a Tele w/ a FilterTron in the neck and a regular Tele bridge pickup the other day.

Only issue you might have is the p90 will be a little hotter but that is what height adjustment is for. I've done bucker and tron before and the both on sound was cool so I'd say a P90 would rock

I was worried that the p90 might be too loud. I talked to the guys at tv jones and they said that the classic would match pretty well. I'm really exited, can't wait till I get the cash.

You'll have to keep us updated with your progress on this. Should be great.

This is one of my favorite pickup combinations. I had my thinline tele set up that way for quite a while, though I recently switched the neck pickup back to a Duncan Antiquity Firebird pickup. In the case of the pickups I was using, it wasn't a problem getting the volumes balanced. And the sound with both pickups selected was really nice. Put me right into the Bill Frisell tonal ballpark.
