Discuss about the Way Huge Supa Puss

Post by dangergirlstarship »

I don't know if there's a forum about this pedal but what are your thoughts on it?

I owned a aquapuss, echopuss, and ended not liking them but each pedal is different and unquie and is it worth it?

havent played one, but all my buddies that sold the aqua puss for the supa puss flipped them to get the aqua puss again. i think someone described it to me like the aqua, echo, and supa puss are all distinctive sounding and the aqua was more the sound they liked.

At first, I loved the auqa, always liked the blue. But it had short delay times and no modualtion. I need something with mod. I love my memory's man mod and my T-rex Reptile Mod, but I want something main stream (brand), to meet my middle between vintage and boutique.

i think it had either 500 or 600ms. i bought one when they re-released them, it was pretty good for the price. nice and warm~! plus the ability to self oscillate is cool! to be honest tho not to many delays that go over 600ms that i can think of in the non boutique area. i sold my aqua and got an empress super delay (sounded not warm enough for me), than flipped that for mid-fi delays(fucking awesome), than i settled on dr.scientist delays. i cant recommend the sunny day delay enough. i have the stereo version and the ilf version and they are yummy. with the options/needs you want you should consider checking out the boutiques, delay is an important thing to investigate imo! i go thro delays more than any other type of pedal. never ending tone chaseeeee

This thread came at a perfect timing. I plan to get another Supa-puss and give it a second chance. I bought one of the first batch when it first came out with that damn volume drop probs. Wondering if the second revision fixed it, and need some inputs if this pedal any good. In need for simple analog delay with tap & division plus mod. I've owned ML Jr, so let's skip that one.

I been looking at the MLJRs, but I don't like the mod on it, doesn't get wobery.

I think I heard that the second versions of Supa Puss are fixed with perfect volume. I'm planing on getting a second version myself. Just got to shell out the cash for it, there other shit that I want to buy.

quoting myself from another thread.

I really like it! pretty much everything that i'd want from an analog delay. the modulation sounds great and i like having the tone control for the repeats. you can only get a few noticeable repeats before it becomes a wash of sound, but that's exactly what i want. :thumb:
i don't really use the tap tempo subdivisions much at all. i'm a set-it-and-forget-it kind of person and i'm sure i'd forget to change the setting before starting up a song.
with that said, if you are in the chase mode you can coax some pretty interesting patterns of sound out of it.

Oddknowledge has the one that I sold him after I had it upgraded by Dunlop. It got crazier before the upgrade in terms of oscillation and all, but the volume drop before the upgrade was a super bummer and it's a lot more usable now with the gain control. It's SUPER flexible though, I loved it.

I have the Supa Puss mk2, it fixes everything that was frustrating with the first issue

The Aqua Puss mk2 uses a single Cool Audio v3205 chip, for ~300ms of delay. Note: the MXR carbon copy uses 2 of these chips
The Supa Puss uses 6 x Belling BL3208 chips (each will give 150ms, so 900ms delay) note: The EHX memory boy/ toy also uses these.

I cant remeber what the Echo puss uses, likely 2 x v3205

The Carbon Copy guts I saw used 4 x BL3208

how does one tell the difference between an mk1 supa puss and an mk2…? is there markings that are different?

also, from what i've read, some ppl say that the volume drop is fixed on the mk2, there is now a volume boost when u engage the pedal?

is dis true?

also is what they say about the first one or two repeats being really loud and then trailing off very quickly true?

i never know what to believe w/ some of these claims.

Supa Puss was the first delay i ever owned (i have 25 delays now). For the price range it's in I still like it a lot. Mainly for the features (tap, subdivisions, modulation, gain, etc). The quality of the repeats are good but not great. A bit thin but it also depends on what kind of music you are playing. It creates a nice landscape in the background BECAUSE the repeats are thin and with the sub divisions can get almost a blended reverb(y) sound that floats nicely and is great for ambient, post rock, etc. If i wanted full, warm, crystal clear repeats i would not get it.
