I've been watching a bunch of videos with the Moog CP-251 and I really don't get what it does. I figure it might have to be one of those things where you really don't get it till you try it and spend some time playing around with it (although I imagine the learning curve at first will be a bit rough). I have a SubPhatty and was wondering if those of you that have experience with it think it would make a good purchase. It seems like some folks can get some cool stuff out of it while others just seem to get annoying bleeps and bloops but I figure all synth stuff is like that. I also own a few of the Moogerfooger pedals (delay, ring mod, clusterflux and non-midi MuRF) and plan on adding a freqbox and phaser soon.

All the CP-251 does is output CV, no?
Jerk Kerouac (harsh noise)
Kalimantan (improv not-jazz shambles)
ZDICM (space-drone-synth-thing)

aside from making it easier to direct cv traffic, it has an lfo, 4 input mixer, sample/hold, noise. its pretty vital if you have moogerfoogers or many pedals with cv that you want to hook together in interesting new ways.

Hell yeah!! example- mult a pitch cv signal and send one through the attentuator and send that to one synth's pitch cv input. Send the other cv signal into another synth's pitch cv input. Now you can have two different pitches to two synths with one sequence :joy:

Oh I like multiples. I've got a red square that has two 4 way multiples and one 5 way multiple. I'll use them as mixers too in some instances. i don't know, but the cp-251 should be considered mandatory for people with a couple foogers. some people just don't seem to understand how powerful it can be.

YES get the 251... Think of it as a mixer/modulator for the Phatty and Foogers... It can send LFO/LFOs to multiple pedals, or noise through the Phatty, or it can Sample and Hold Phatty notes whilst then modulating the Foogers, it can mix the outputs of the Foogers and send them through the Phatty with an LFO over it, it can do a lot of things... I use it all the time to process radio static and add noise to my Dronezzz... I've made several tracks with just some delay and verb pedals and the 251... :thumb:

My only concern is that I don't really have a fundamental understanding of how synths really operate and there are so many connection options that I'd just be blindly plugging things in...I can't even really visualize the signal flow involved. I wish there was a good YouTube video that really broke it down but they all seem to be at least a few levels above my current understanding. Hopefully the manual will be clear.

edit... Yes, the moogerfooger manuals are excellent resources as well. Also, go on Doepfer's web site and check out the manuals. Uber patch tutorials galore!!!!

that's where the red square comes in handy. two 4 way multiples and one 5 way multiple.
