I like to loosen the knobs on my amps and pedals, set the pot where I like them, and then tighten the knobs with the indicator at 12:00
that way i know where all my knobs go all the time, easily spotted if they're not in the right position.
doesn't work when the potentiometer has a D-Type shaft
....or just take out the pots and replace them with fixed value resistors. By the same token, I've actually removed most of the frets on my guitar leaving only my favourite three notes.
I make little masking tape arrows and stick em on everything to indicate where the settings should be. Then after I set up I just do a quick check and fix whatever got bumped in transit.
Not a bad Idea though. Definitely something more people should pay attention to.

I just Sharpie EVERYTHING. I keep so many around you'd think I had stock in the company. A Sharpie and an alcohol wipe in case I wanna make a change.
Ghetto as hell, ya'll.
But I don't think I could do it. There is something really satisfying/relaxing/can't-find-the-word about having the knobs pointing in different directions.
I stick stars on my pedals and amps. The little ones you'd get if you were good in school when you were little. Cut them in half and use one of the points to indicate where the knob should be.

That’s quarter-assed at best.
