spring reverb is best reverb......?now with pics!

just got a van amps sole-mate jr yesterday....i ordered the sole-mate all in one unit but they sent the two piece unit which is actually a better idea now that i think about it. i can use this reverb tray with my knaz too

stacking spring reverb into tape reverb into spring reverb is by far the best thing i've done all morning. i ran the van amps into my roland re-201 set to reverb, into blues deluxe which has a spacey as fuck reverb to boot. i never minded with modding them.

you all ever double, triple, etc up on reverb? i've never owned a reverb pedal, but most of my analog/tape delays can get a nice range of depth for reverb. and adding that to the amps reverb is always fun. i figured one more reverb would add to the

its sick with delay or modulation going in deeper and deeper and deeper and.....i'm going to have to chain up all my delays into the reverbs....

speaking of reverb, do you ever place your reverb in interesting positions in the chain for more interesting results? and what's your experience with reverb pedals?

Fuck yeah! I love stacking a short fairly loud verb into a big spacey down-in-the-mix verb.

I dunno how weird it is but my board is bookended by two verbs. I lovelovelove having one before everything else, if it's subtle it can just make stuff huge, or seriously spaced out, or messy as hell with heavy fuzz after it.

I normally use one at the start as a short decay, short predelay plate on nearly all the time and use the verb at the end for longer decay times and modulated verb to up the ambience. Occasionaly the spring reverb in my amp comes on too, but not all that often.

yoo stacking reverb is the best! you could take 2 meh reverbs and turn it into one gigantic sound. really compliments each other.

i remember the time i got a second reverb pedal, was a hardwire reverb. all like i wonder what this will do? prob nothing. then i plugged them in and they were fucking fantastic.
didn't really like the hardwire on its own, but when stacked it was BEAUTIFUL.

and yea def like flipping them around the chain, makes a big difference! pre or post dirt, reverb dirt reverb dirt is amazewontons.

Nice, i follow ya. I'll often put an old blue face deluxe memory man first in line setup more for color and reverb than for delay. even off that beauty bleeds through . I borrowed a friends van amp sole-mate enclosed unit awhile back and it left an impression. finally got around to ordering one with 20% off deal. now i'm glad they send me the wrong unit, with the exposed springs under the tray can i do all sorts of lovely stuff to the springs ala i like to with my knaz moisturizer, and feed that thunder/lightening etc into a delay. all in all its a cool unit, doesn't really affect the tone much but a touch brighter than my vox ac15's reverb, but much wider and deeper.

and it never gets mushy or congested is the best part. although i'm sure there's a ceiling on how deep that chasm can go.

I'm currently running reverb > delay > delay > reverb. one is on all the time, pretty much in place of my amp reverb, and the other is set to sound HUGE. it all sounds to awesome when played together.

Before I found MBV I was all about spring reverb. Now I'm meh about it and more interested in interesting digital reverb (modulared, shimmer, reverse). Best sounding spring reverb I've heard is the double-pan one in the early Boogie Quad preamps. Doesn't do the Fender outboard surf tricks, but it sounds very, very good.

i figured it would be easy, now that I know how to post but getting the volume right with out hearing the strings is tough if i don't want to overload the iphone. and if i want to show the pedals and changing knobs i need a third arm/hand to hold the camera over the pedal i'll get it. its just a slow process for me, and the shitty playback sound quality is killing me. i'll get there.

I imagine its just what you're used to really. digital reverbs sound so glassy and artificial to me, but its pretty darn popular with most people. i do like the special effects, but there is still that digital sheen that bugs me. working in a studio live room alot, just natural reverb gets imprinted on the dome. and plate reverb.....i want one in my house sooooo bad but i just don't feel like building another one. They are king.

I'd love a real plate verb so much! I hear you about natural reverb, I love it and when I actually play live I don't use any amp or pedal reverb, but I see digital reverb as a totally different thing, which is maybe why I don't love springs or spring emulators too much, I use digital reverbs for "effects" rather than trying to make it sound like I'm in a big room. Digital room reverb is meh, I like huge unrealistically long decay cathedral sounds, modulated verb and well, plates because real plate reverb is hell of impractical.

i generally have 3-4 reverbs and at least 2 delays (at least 1 reverse) on my board. i don't always run all at once (though sometimes i do). i prefer digital reverbs to spring. but i don't care to get the sproing as much as the whoosh/wash.

totes. I run one in the front and one at the end. Spring chicken is first because its dirty anyway and has a huge decay/feedbacky possibilities. Ghost echo at the end because its pretty.

Everyone always speaks of the wonders of reverb > fuzz, but the truth is that reverb w exp pedal > fuzz is where its at.
Reverb into modulation yields some interesting and usable sounds too. I like spring chicken > flanger > compressor for swirly spaciness. Its kind of the poor mans flerb but probably costs more than flerb itself would.
And reverb and some sort of octave pedals r gud 2
