I was never interested in compression before, maybe due to my MXR Dyna Comp… it's hissy. Now I have a Rothwell Love Squeeze (ugh… that name) and it's dead silent, even with the compression jacked all the way up.

Read the ovnilabs.com reviews, he is pretty thorough (in some cases, plotting out the histogram of before/after to see if the unit is rolling off highs or lows, etc).

I want a Frantone Sandwich (TWSS) and a Celmo Sardine Can, and a Fairfield Accountant. I'm going compressor-crazy now. But I think that many, many people don't need them.

unless i'm playing bass...well, even then...i'm usually only using a compressor(s) to get results that were not intended.

for playing into a synth pedal which has a pitch to cv they really help with tracking.

manley... couple friends of mine have 'em. massive passive & voxbox. so sick... so fucking expensive...

only compressor pedals i have had (& still do) are a fromel modded CS-2 (thanks to skully helping me out, & i'm gonna do another that i picked up) and a warden. obviously haven't had other pedz to compare them to, but i think they're both very nice, and i have some rack gear & plugins i use too.

i love compression on bass. especially from the punk-ish band i last played bass in. i was the only pedal junkie, put it in the middle of the chain after a couple fuzzes and before a pitch shifter. helped get the bass cranked out there in the mix w/ two very loud, very minimal guitar rigs.

i'm also guilty of loving sidechain compression w/ drum machines.

I would really like a Diamond Compressor or maybe even an EQD Warden but I have been unable to justify $200 as of late.

I think I'll try out an Accountant eventually in the hopes that it will clear up and give more detail complex chords when I'm using dirt.

I use an MXR bass compressor more as a peak limiter than anything to control my aggro/slapping before it hits the rest of my pedals, so aside from peaks I keep it pretty open and transparent.
