I've tilted them, tried stands and other platforms.. but for me direct floor is the best. Somehow I got better low end, better resonance, and the sounds spread better. I once used the wedged stand live and I've got lost in the mix, weird. No mas!

You get better low-end with the cab on the ground because of coupling. The floor reflects your lower frequencies and you get a bass boost. There are long threads on Talkbass about this.

That's why most bassists look at me cross-eyed when they see that I put my bass cab up on an egg crate or short stool. They all ask me why I'm not worried about losing all of my low-end that way. But I don't really care because we almost always mic my bass cab, and we use the subwoofers in the PA for the super low-end. So I don't really need my cab to shake the house, that's why our subs are there.

I sit indian style infront of my super reverb at home and occasionally use the tilt legs at practice and floor level shows. The 212 for my bassman doesnt have piggy back latches
Or legs though but I think it soubds perfectly fine on the ground.

I think once I've "heard the amp" and have an expectation, if its sitting flat on a reflective surface some of that high end reflects up and it sounds OK compared to when its sitting flat on carpet and the reflections are absorbed. then i just want that brilliance back and no tweaking on the tone controls will do that.

Usually, my amps have enough cabs stacked together that at least one is ear level.

I don't listen to my bass.
I FEEL IT.

I think the best thing anyone has told me after a show, I've actually heard three times after joy sores sets.

"it was so loud, I stopped being able to hear anything, and could only feel the music."

Milk crates for my 2x12 if we're playing on the floor, which I always prefer.

Yeah, big difference in bottom end when splitting up a full-stack into a side-by-side configuration. Even with open-back cabs.
Even a 2x12 upright in portrait vs landscape config.

Solo, duo or in a power trio it's great. With 2 guitars that's likely to become sonic slop. All depends on the context and sound you're going for.

I like resonance and feedback. But in design-based applications...

For me, a solid amp stand is a no brainer investment when it comes to combos, live or at home. Just kick it to the angle best suited for what you are doing and let it sing....

This is my goal too. Ear level cab, problems solved.

That describes basically every Jucifer and A Place To Bury Strangers show I've attended.

I tilt mine up against the wall or rest it on something (like another amp/coffee table/whatever) at home yeah, I think it sounds loads better.
