Ridding Jaguar string buzz

Post by Psyre »

My jag has suddenly gotten string buzz on the A and D strings. I have adjusted the bridge height and saddle positions and it only changes where the buzz starts occurring. Any ideas? It's like a harmonic/sympathetic type buzz. Even occurrs when the action is well above fret level and strings are plucked open.

I can't provide any help, but I also have a Jag that has some string buzz, so this topic has gained my interests.
Really, I only notice it when I play unplugged. Plugged in, I don't hear any buzz so I've learned to live with it.
But it would most certainly be nice to find a solution since I tend to play unplugged nowadays (living in a dorm, try to keep quiet when I can).

Here is a response I got on OSG I will try them tonight and let you know.

need a little shaping, or that something else is rattling in/on the guitar. The toggle switch on my Jazzmaster and Les Paul rattle in the middle position a little bit. If you're using the tremolo lock, it could be that the spring tension is just so that the plate is just grazing the lock, causing it to rattle, which is remedied by tightening the tension screw so it presses against the lock a little harder. It could also be that there isn't enough relief in the neck, which is resolved with a truss rod adjustment. The Marr Jag has a Mustang bridge so I'm ruling out the saddles, but it's not impossible that they, or something else on the bridge, could be the case.[/quote]

It ended up being tremolo tension. I tighten the screw some and readjusted the bridge and saddles back and its sounding good!

a perfectly fine and properly set up jag or jazzy with proper gauge strings shouldn't give you any buzzing noises, and there should be no problems with the strings jumping off saddles regardless of within reason how aggressive you play near the bridge....unless you have horrible technique in which case nothing will help but practice to keep you from pushing the strings rather than strumming them. i find it pretty silly the mastery bridge or tone sucking roller thing-a-ma-job. just make sure every thing is properly set up and you should be good to go :thumb:
