the snarling dogs wahs have a few tricks to widen the Q.
true story- 2011/2012 we had a small store within a store with our pedals, did mods, repairs etc. i usually kept a half dozen or so of my custom wahs in stock for people to try . i also had a stock and well tuned mold spore.
more than a couple people preferred the wah portion of the mold spore over my customs and even some vintage ' classic' wahs. it hurt my feelings but i am not afraid to admit it.
i have owned and sold two good mold spores and have repaired a few others. they all sound great, and like a crate club series amp, once the bugs and kinks are worked out they can be quite reliable ( for a while).
the wonder wah and other snarling wahs all seem to have that magic wide sweep and high q factor that people liked in the mold spore wah.
the key differences from a standard crybaby or vox- vastly different mix resistor between Q1 and inductor, along with a TEN X larger cap to ground off inductor. you get a wide Q and juicy character, but with a heavy downside - it can sound very spikey and rude , especially into Ss amps that don't compress. the SD wah has .001 u caps to ground at 3 points to tame the spikeyness, much like the hiss taming caps found in most boogiemesa amps.
needless to say, i borrowed some of these tricks and have evolved them into something pretty far away, but influenced nonetheless.

oh, and the other key difference - that long throw treadle was designed to utilize a standard linear 100k pot for parts availability reasons. the result is a pedal that allows the user to explore all the nooks and crannies along the sweep that voxes and CBs just rush right past!

This. Much appreciated.D.o.S. wrote:I see. Thanks for the Snarling Dogs info!
This is not for me, it is for a customer at guitar center. If it was me, I would've done this. I don't know jack about wahs and thought I'd ask here. Should've been up front from the get go, but I wanted unbiased opinions. At least the diy mentality is still strong around here.Chankgeez wrote:Chankgeez wrote:I think you should talk to Joe Gagan and have him build you exactly what you want.
Anywho, doesn't really matter because a few snarling dogs popped up recently on our used site. Thanks for all the replies.

Ah! I'm always late to the party. I had a Snarling Dogs wah. It wasn't the original guts though, the guy I bought it from gutted it and put a GGG wah board into it. That being said, the construction of the shell was pretty nice
