I have to agree, the build quality and esthetics are top notch at Spaceman. It's one of those rare times that I actually bought a pedal new, so I could clone it. So far, I haven't heard much that can touch the Gemini III Dual Fuzz Generator. I cloned that one, but using Russian transistors. Simply outstanding, it's my go to fuzz.

I cloned the WOW! Signal too, and although I can get similar tones feeding the Gemini through a Tremulous Lune, the fuzz is different due to the frequency tripler arrangement that they use. Personally, I would dump the trem section of the WOW!, and run the fuzz alone. It's got some decent bark and bite, while retaining very good clarity. Lots of Harmonic Percolator qualities. Video of the WOW Signal, fuzz section only, running straight into an Ampeg G-212;

If anyone would like to lend me their Sputnik, I could trace it out, and do a vero layout for it. Usually doesn't take me more than 3 or 4 days to do the tracing, minus the shipping to and fro. PM me if anyone is interested in sharing.

Like the Schumann line, these suckers are worth reversing, since we'll probably never see them produced again.

That sounded really good through laptop speakers & youtube.

One thing that's always bothered me about the various spaceman threads on gear sites is that it tends to foster commentary along the lines of "oh, it sounds amazing, totally unlike anything else. No, I can't do clips, if you want to hear it you should track one down. Oh wait... you can't, you pleeb."

I absolutely agree. The internet will almost never do justice insofar as any of these pedal tones are concerned. I'm sure many of us here have been burned by the "I bought it 'cuz it sounded great on Youtube" bug. Unfortunately, until everything is recorded in a studio, with a detailed recording set up provided, and without compression, we're still going to get some nastiness out there at the best of times.

Even I'll admit, a recording done with my camera, and a recording done in my very modest studio, is like comparing the sun and the moon. My videos however, are aimed more at the DIY crowd, purely as informative. I wouldn't dream of trying to sell anyone anything with a Youboob sound cut. As with anything you may see or hear on the net, caveat emptor.

Also, all the more reason to reverse these limited run pedals. At the very least, one might be able to breadboard one, and judge for themselves if any of the hype blows his/her skirt up.

Yeah, I think you did an excellent job conveying the idea of the pedal. I'd probably check out a clone if someone threw one out there.

Also, since it's allegedly bad form to heckle in the BST:

Three of these have popped up for around six bills in the last week. Is that really what they go for on the used market, even when some of the posts are so brutally "I bought two so I could sell one later to almost cover the cost of both. What color do you want?"

The red edition is still available actually....

Zak sent an email 2-3 days ago telling where was it possible to purchase a Red and where to purchase a Black Sputnik.

Except the Copper which is sold out, all versions of the Sputnik are available at dealers

Making those BST threads much shadier/funnier, actually.

Flippers pushing up prices is tacky as fuck. Especially here.

In spite of that, this year I started buying 2 copies of LPs, for bands/albums that I really enjoy.
It opens doors and who doesn't like options?

I can keep 1 sealed for collectibility/backup (especially if I want to sample/skratch it); give as a gift; or trade with another music fan.

There are better money-making formulas out there.
One could start by collecting underpants...

On-Topic Edit: I have a WOW Signal, and based on the demos I've heard....the Sputnik sounds a lot like the WOW, only without the modulation.

Very velcro-y

I agree ! It seems to sound like the Wow without the LFO..

I had a VERY hard time liking my Wow Signal. But now can't live without it. Such a wonderful and unique and underrated design.... Never heard anything quite like it.

I only wish the internal trimmer was outside... Makes no sense to me to put it inside....

Didn't Zak make it 1 pre-order per person only?

Flipping off a second won't get them rich, just "mentioned here" ;)

I would have liked to see that as well. Also a switch to toggle the modulation.
