I need a new fuzz

Post by theAntihero »

Getting the Doom Bender from Bukowski has kinda restarted my fuzz search so im thinking of getting something new. Im playing more doom lately and want something in that vein. I already own a Supercollider, fz-2 and 2 Noisemaker's (The Donner Party and Sludgemaker) for that style. I didnt like the Swollen Pickle at all. Im looking for something with lots of lowend and gain, say the FZ2 if it had any mids or basically anything fun, which would you choose?

Check out the Devi Hyperion. It's real heavy and real low noise. It sounds similar to a Muff but is something different.

While not technically a fuzz, you should check out EQD's Talons. Maxing the gain and bass sounds pretty damn heavy as well as having controls for treble, mids and presence.
Stacks like a champ too, I posted a demo of it not too long ago

I have a Pharaoh and absolutely love it in the Germanium setting, but I wouldn't say it has a lot of gain on tap. It can definitely do doom, but it's more low grown and dark gain. I would suggest stacking a Fuck and a Pharaoh. You'll have four different sounds to stomp on and off if you count your clean signal. And all can get you between any style of doom depending how you set your amp's EQ. Plus the Fuck will add a good boost to the Pharaoh to make it stand out a little more, plus give it more gain. And both engaged with the crackle mode is just, well, I'm sure the people who have them know. If you don't, you'll have to find out for yourself.

How similar to the massive amount of lowend that your pedal puts out is the Hyperion?

A Pharaoh. Def a Pharaoh.

Like stated, it's not super high gain but it gets cooking in silicon or no diodes mode and it drives an amp so well at high volume. Plus you already have good high gainers available. It's not a bedroom pedal, sounds best loud but unique and different than anything you listed so it would be a nice compliment. And it stacks so well, mates with almost anything and just holds down the low heavies while letting higher or harsher frequencies from other fuzzes shine thru. An Algal Bloom or Fuck in front of it sounds esp amazing.

TFR is definitely not a Black Russian muff. Dismiss it as such at your own risk.

True but ive heard some clips of it and it didnt really blow my mind. Its a cool sounding pedal but i think the Supercollider does that particular tone far better.

Not (exactly) a fuzz, but - Fryette SAS.

Every time I play through one of mine I'm amazed that this box doesn't get much (any?) love. Clean to filth, stacks well, running an EF86 at real voltage, cheap bordering on dirt cheap. Lots of gain, no real low end roll off depending on settings.
