Comparable Wahs to the Snarling Dog series
What are some wahs that compare to the Snarling Dog wah pedals? Be it in feel, "grab", tone, etc.

I think you should talk to Joe Gagan and have him build you exactly what you want.

Get a Wahoo, and design any wah you can imagine... and then some.

No one has had any experience with the Snarling Dog series and tried another wah that is similar?

Re: Comparable Wahs to the Snarling Dog series
To be honest, I've tried so many wahs, but keep coming back to my Mold Spore.
I've used the Zakk Wylde wah, the Ernie Ball one, and various others.
The only one that came close was a 70s Morley, but the lows just sounded too huge...to the point that I disappeared in the mix with the treadle all the way back.
I love the Mold Spore, but I agree that the build quality is sub par, and the footprint (
) is too huge and cumbersome for regular board use.
I can't remember how big the circuit is, but maybe have a tech, or a shark tanker, rewire and rehouse.

You should contact the dude at Wilson Effects - he seems to be the go-to small-builder wah guy. Everyone I know who try's his jank loves it. He might either have something comparible or be able to clone the snarling dog you like directly.

I don't have any experience with the Snarling Dog wahs but I have a 12 Position Vintage Spec Rippah wah from Wilson Effects and it sounds amazing! Very versatile. Kevin really knows his stuff. I'm sure if you talk with him about it, he'll be able to figure it out. He responds very quickly to emails and is great to work with through the whole process. Hope this helps!

Re: Comparable Wahs to the Snarling Dog series
+1 on the Mold Spore. I have one, though since I have the Wahoo it's seen much less action. Still a great one though. I have the schematic if someone wishes to clone it. For those who do have one, I have a Straight control modification for the Mold Spore. Replacing one of the resistors with a trimmer allows for better gain control of the "Straight" signal, thus allowing for the Straight control to be more effective. In original trim, I found it very weak, and the ring mod much too overbearing. After the mod, the Straight control becomes more effective, and the pedal is much more musical.jrmy wrote:You should contact the dude at Wilson Effects - he seems to be the go-to small-builder wah guy. PM me for details.
