My thoughts exactly, though anymore I use my multis or iPhone for tuning.

I use first generation Planet Waves NS headstock tuners. No worry about buffering or not and you are free to see the tuning in normal play or turn down/off to do a full tune-up. Not completely inconspicuous but pretty tiny and non-ridiculous compared to other headstock tuners.

I also see tuner outs being quite handy if you use tuners like the BOSS TU-12 style. I just wouldn't feel comfortable having one of those actually in my signal chain.

Haven't used on except as an out to a harmonizer for tracking purposes only (in for pre-fuzz/effected signal but so it could figure out what was going on), way back in the Stone Age.

I still don't use a pedal tuner though, I have a venerable quartz needle thing that cost a fortune back in the late 80s but is still going strong.

I use a tu-2 with the bypass output. I leave the tuner on all the time so i can look down during a song if I need to check on the fly.
I also have a mute switch seperate which I use when I'm tuning after a song.
I'm sure the tuner beinging on all the time isnt great fo toanz, but meh.

For awhile I had a mini-ABY with the B channel going to a tuner, but not connected to anything after, so I could do silent tuning, or not.
Good deals on ILF: too many to list, just ask!

Some harmonizers have a "tracking in" that's only used to, well, track the sound before it hits the rest of the effect chain. It allows you to put the harmonizer anywhere and still retain tracking.

Then you run the rest of your stuff basically though the harmonizer's loop.

It's nothing really fancy, just eliminates artifacts etc and lets the device do its job.

I wish my tuner had multiple inputs so I could use different instruments without needing to switch cables, or an A/B box....

With my last band, I used my tuner out to split the signal to another amp. I'd flip the standby on the the tuner-out amp before tuning so everyone didn't have to listen to me tuning.

I didn't use any pedals other than the tuner and don't have an A/B, so it was just the simplest way of splitting my signal to two amps. DIY and all that.
