Thanks! It's the Xerograph Deluxe with the filter on up sweep with a pretty deep freq setting. There's also a reverb (from the WET) and I use an vp jr (modded as an expression pedal) to bring in a Trem Delay from the TimeLine.

The pedalboard is pretty different now - I'm having a new one built, I'll post when it's finished.

I have plenty of songs where I use the lower strings. I just write what I think sounds good - whether it's on one string or all of them.

I've heard this comment a few times in regards to extended range guitarists/bassists - to me, it's like saying to a piano player "you better play all the notes on that!" or wanting someone who has a giant pedalboard to have ALL of their effects on at the SAME time. Like many of you, I have a couple of odd pedals (BitCrusher, Revolver) that I keep on my board and use sparingly, similarly I have a couple of really LOW strings that I use sparingly, but are there when I need them. Hope that doesn't come across rude.

Oh I'm not suggesting you have to use ALL of the strings ALL of the time, and again, that track is fucking KILLER. You're a far better/more creative musician than I will likely ever be. What I was trying to say is that maybe THIS specific song might not be the best example of using extended range instruments, is all. I would expect that any capable and tasteful musician would use any tools that he has with taste and for the song, not all the time just because they're available. I really wasn't trying to be rude and I definitely am not trying to be all TGP, dude. I actually was hoping maybe you'd post another track that not only showcased more of your playing but might better showcase the range of that behemoth of an instrument you're rocking.

This actually just made me want to try out an extended range guitar and mess with tunings and such.
I don't think I'd like a super thick neck like that though but I guess it would just take time to get used to it.

I played one today - it was not intuitive in the slightest, haha. I'm not sure how inclined I would be to pick one up knowing how much time I'd need to devote to it but.... you never know.

I will say the pick-ups were uninspiring though.

What an envy!, to have such mastery over the instrument. If I had that technique level I would be playing guitar all day, every day.

That's a chicken or the egg sort of deal. That guy is awesome and does have serious mastery of the instrument, but if say he does because he already spent years of playing guitar all day every day.

I have a feeling that this is how I would feel about them too.
Another reason I'm just going to stick to 6 strings and get a baritone/bass vi if I need more low end.

It doesn't help that I really don't like the looks of "metal" guitars, and since most 7 and 8 strings are geared towards metalheads, I tend to not like most of them

I play a seven string with my band. I kinda held off on posting since I guess my band straddles the border of metal, but o well. We are kinda post-rock/post-metal as we are instrumental and sway between heavy distortion and light cleans. I use the seven string to cover the deep end and the higher end. When I originally joined the band I was one of three guitars and I was playing a baritone. But one guitarist left the band and I started looking into sevens. It allows me to keep the lows I had with the baritone but also get some highs for solo type stuff. My band's demo doesn't have the seven string on it but we are just heading into the studio to start recording new material and all my parts will probably be on the sevens. Here is the main one I use, which is an agile baritone seven. The other seven is a normal scale seven. I also just installed push pull pots that let me coil split the pickups and switch between series and parallel.
