Re: Pedal: low pass, low gain, and more mids --> low mids
Hmm... How well does it handle low tuning? Does it stack well with a fuzz before it? Does it boost volume in the "clean" setting? Is the dirty setting a fixed gain or does it change throughout the sweep of the output knob? Most importantly probably, does it pass low end even when the frequency knob is at a middle setting? Will the lower frequencies still pass through with a volume boost?univalve wrote:I have one. What you wanna know?chillerthanmost wrote:Kinda digging the PDF-1. Thanks!

Yeah, I've gone through two or three fucks. Funny I just sold mine on here and the dude wants to return it because it has Velcro and a few paint chips
Personally I think Brian's pedals are worth way more in quality/build and sound than in looks, but to each their own I guess. At least I'll have a fuck again. Though I still think it lacked a hair in mids. But I'll try it with the Sunn this time around.

heres a nice video showing the maestro parametric filter in action. this is what the pdf-1 is a clone of. the original handles my baritone and bass VI and synth gear fine. 65hz to 3.5khz is the range. it stacks well with anything, fuzz really brings it.chillerthanmost wrote:Hmm... Thanks. I can't trust videos much. I prefer hands on or first hand experience talk. Would rather hear from someone who plays it and plays it loud. Preferable at dropped tunings (well, I tune C#) and with loud tube amps. I've rarely come across a demo or video that comes off as to how it sounds with my gear.

Re: Pedal: low pass, low gain, and more mids --> low mids
right. i own the Maestro, and i've never had any problems with it with any of my pedlas...and i use alot. My loudest tube amp is a 64 jtm 45 with 4x12 goodman spkrs cab. and i crank it, and the character of the Maestro comes through just as well as the character of any of the other fuzz pedals i'm running. I thought the drum demo could give you an idea of how the frequencies respond to the filter. Its a great pedal, if the clone is anything like it you should give it a go.chillerthanmost wrote:Thanks. edit: that's not right, i've got a blonde 63 fender twin-amp that's 80 watts. i guess that's the loudest tube amp i use.

I thought Ryan brought back The Cleanness as well, which basically is The Elements but then designed for low gain / boost applications.
Other than that you could also try the DBA Kill Kill Filter maybe.
Just to throw some other ones in the mix.

Definitely. Thanks! I had an Elements for a whole and didn't bond with it as much as everyone else does. It sounded a bit sterile and cold for my taste. Something about the gain on it was a bit off for me. But mainly, like I posted earlier, I would just get too knob happy and never stop tweaking and was never satisfied. Stuff that's too complicated just turns me off. I like simple shit.

Understood, same here, with you on that one, knob, twiddle twiddle, knob, twiddle, and so on and so on.
The DBA Kill Kill Filter is killer though, hugenormous on the bass but maybe not enough mids for you.

Re: Pedal: low pass, low gain, and more mids --> low mids
Pedal demos NEVER show the settings I would like to play on said pedals.
"You want a clean boost? Let me make it sound super thin!"
"You wanna check out all the options? Let me play it with all the gain it has!"
"You wanna see how versatile it is? Let me change something on my guitar every time I change a knob!"
"Here, let me never compare one setting to another setting that share other certain settings/knobs"
I'm just mad right now. Carry on with suggestions and first hand experiences please

Re: Pedal: low pass, low gain, and more mids --> low mids
from everything you've described wanting, the Maestro Parametric FIlter/OD fits the bill. The OD isn't always on, and has two settings that are fixed. I think they go for around $250 on ebay. i dont know about that clone, but i think it has normal knobs. the maestro has dials on the sides that are designed to be operated with your feet so you can tweek your sound while playing. the dials light up so you can see what the settings are when you're on a dark stage.
