As others have mentioned, the Earthbound Audio Supercollider is AMAZING on bass. The Bluebeard is also great on bass. Try a good old fashioned Black Russian Big Muff. It's my favorite bass fuzz and I've never had any cutting out problems. Zvex Mastotron is a good option for bass, too.

Something I did with the Tall Font Russian (green muff, when I had it, wish I still did, boo)...
Anyway, I put a EWS BMC after the TFR and set it to an upper low-mid boost (about 700Hz).
When my guitarist was playing screaming high end stuff I'd have the TFR by itself, I'd be running the low-end rhythm.
When the guitarist started in on rhythm parts, I'd step on the BMC and activate the boost, which bumped the mids considerably.
This way I could still have the green muff sound, but not be totally drowned out by her ridiculous gainy distorted power chording mayhem.
So basically, a simple parametric mid-eq adjuster (I highly, highly recomend the EWS BMC, awesome tool for bassists) set after a muff will basically act like an eq/boost/cut whatever and alter the character of the fuzz (or anything) with a footswitch.
Super useful.

The BMC looks nice, but I don't have the real-estate for it (and it's small so that says something how much my board is crammed). I decided to ordered the Diabolik. I'll compare it with the Baby Thundaa and hopefully one of those two should replace the Pickle Pie B nicely!

I've found this just creates a volume war with your guitarists, they end up turning up more and you get drowned out again.D.o.S. wrote:You could also just turn up more.

ew. fucking muffs. all awful.
except the Pickle Pie B. love that fucker. that, the Depth Charge and Heavy Machine ar what i use on my board, and you can really tell when fuzzin's goes on. and my drummer is LOUD. but it's just the two of us, so no guitarist to fight for sonic space.
also, in my setup right now i can blare PPB out one set of speakers and Depth Charge out another and it is BEAUTIFUL ANGRY DESTRUCTION.
CLEAN BLEND FOR LIFF. SHIT RULES. ANYBODY THAT SAYS DIFFERENT IS ALL TUSHY TOUCHED AND GOT THEIR LUNCH MONEY STOLEDEDED BY A CLEAN BLEND WHEN THEY WERE A KICKEN.

Re: Which fuzz on bass to avoid getting drowned in the mix
My opinion on Behndys clean blends? The bass distortion /OD /fuzz with Clean blends are... the only thing they are good for is to be stacked with yet another distortion or - preferably - fuzz. Because otherwise the clean trebles come through and THAT doesn't sound too cool. Oh You cdialed the trebles off because no treblz? Well, THAT on the other hand sounds absolutely fucking horrible.behndy wrote:

GTFO bass is bass not treble or midz or clean blend.

LM308 Rat Clone with Clean Blend let me cut through a live setting where I was competing against a 60w tube amp with the power section breaking up and Fender Blues Deluxe being blown up by a Devi Shoegazer.
Also my amp is a Hartke HA2000 and I scoop my high mids.
