It seems kind of lame when you're talking hardware and knobs, but if she has an iPad, there are a ton of great apps from Korg, Moog, and others that get into this zone. All the same, rather than a bunch of bite-sized apps, for a Christmas gift, I'd go for one small splurge of hardware. But if you worry about the things the hardware doesn't do, maybe get her a complementary app.

I think you should just offer to synthesize a baby with her.

That's a good idea. She doesn't have an iPad, but she did just get an iPhone. I use Figure, Noisemusick, and Thereminator on mine but I bet there's other cool shit I don't know about.

So right now I'm oscillating (heheheheheheheheheheheeheh) between the Volca Bass and the Monotribe.

They both seem cool. I like that the Monotribe has a simple drum machine for her to get her Kraftwerk on, and the input for her to plug her bass into and get crazy. But I also like that the Volca Bass can have three sequenced notes instead of just the one that the Monotribe can do.

Hmmm

JRR Shop, some online retailer that was linked in the original Volca thread. They had a discounted bundle offer months ago.

Oh word. Do you think this means that most retailers are shipping, now? MF estimates shipping out on the 15th and the lady's birthday is on the 20th.

I'm no millionaire (fuck i wish!) but I make a nice salary and spend some of it quite recklessly when it comes to gear.

That said, I sell and trade a whole buncha shit, usually comes and goes in waves. Hanging around here doesn't help these buying habits. Not one bit. ;)

Yeah, I think a microKorg XL+ would be worth considering if you're prepared to get a digital synth. They're a lot more versatile than the Volca synths.
