EHX Microsynth vs EQD Bit Commander & Boss SYB5

Post by Midnight Rider »

Does EHX Microsynth covers all Boss SYB5 & EQD Bit Commander sounds ??
If you can buy only EHX Microsynth or combination of Boss SYB5 & EQD Bit Commander what would it be and why??
I know boss syb5 is a bass pedal but a lot of guitarist use it.
Bit Commander is fuzzy more than ms, but m.synth have more options...
I would like to use it for textures and riffs

What sort of textures do you want? As far as I know, the Micro Synth is just distortion, octaves, and filters. I'm not familiar with the Bit Commander, but the SYB-5 does more straight up synth sounds. Maybe the EHX Superego would be of interest to you?

Yep, Microsynth is just a fuzz pedal with octave down and a filter. The SYB is much more in the vein of a modular synth. The Bit Commander is somewhere between the two, but probably a little more than the microsynth (albeit a better version!). I hate the microsynth :hello:

The SYB has almost the same functions as the MicroSynth except for a few waveforms... The SYB is intended to track lower strings so it may not be so cool on guitar... The MS has Sub Octave, Squarewave, Clean blend, Filter and Envelope which is more along the lines of a Modular than the SYB... I got really good stuff from the MS... :idk:

The microsynth isn't a fuzz as such, but it is fuzzy because of the way it generates the octaves. Haven't seen the schem for the bit commander but at least part of the fuzziness in that circuit is also a result of the octaving. Both the micro synth and the bit commander are analogue which means that they are never going to produce sounds as "clean" as the Boss, and they are going to be a bit glitchy here and there. I tried the SYB3 and thought that the Digitech Synth Wah was actually cooler (on the two synth modes). So you should definitely look at that one as well, but lots of dudes love the Boss synth pedals.

Another vote for the Micro Synth.

I've had two Bass Micro Synths, the Bit Commander, and have the Behringer Synth pedal. I've checked out the SYB-5 and 3 in stores, I like them. Bit Commander needs to be paired with an envelope filter. On its own, its a killer octave up, down, and sub fuzz! SYB's are cool, but the EHX synths give you more control :thumb: The EHX Bass MIcro Synth sounds fabulous with drum machines(snares, hats, etc.. will trigger it), so I'd imagine its no issue with guitar. I love how the EHX can have a broken sound to it when the input is under or overloaded.

Someday I'll have a third Bass Micro Synth :picard:

I still have the Behringer only because nobody wants to buy it. To me it has a VST in a pedal sound to it :idk: It is pretty rad when you put a distortion after it for a wall of synth noise sound :joy:

edit- I just wanted to add that the Bass Micro Synth will nail that lead synth sound in the Black Sabbath song Who Are You? :thumb:

But seriously... Octasynth. Good tracking and a filter that goes from mild to bat shit.

There's some more synth pedals out there but still I really like the (Bass) Micro Synth, of all pedals I tried it's definitely one of the most ballsy and dirty sounding to my ears (especially the old style big enclosure).
I was a bit underwhelmed with the Bit Commander I must say, it seemed to sound a bit weak or should I say polite to my ear compared to the (Bass) Micro Synth.
But yeah, there's so many differences in types of sounds in these pedals, are you going more for deep sub bass sounds, for computer game sounds or something else maybe?
If you specify more we can give you a better hand in helping you in the right direction.

I wonder if the EHX box could take an LFO mod?

Anybody ever use this? I bet it would be pretty rad with a dirt box. http://www.sourceaudio.net/products/sou ... ly_mod.php

I just can't get over this in their product description "fulfilling all your envelope filter, wah-wah, and dubstep needs." :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard:

This reminds me of the time a metalcore bro asked if my Microkorg had "dubstep patches"

I heared just good stuff about Octasynth...thanks for remind me

Not so long ago I was in touch with Dennis Kayzer (guy from demo videos) about some pedals>
Me:"I'm just stuck between : Bit Commander, OctaSynth,Organizer & Microsynth."
Dennis: "I would say you would get most out of the Bit Commander and POG2 those are the 2 synth/pitch pedals i see myself use most often cause the sound so evil..."

JustNick also suggest me Bit Commander...

About sounds that I want from pedals...nothing specific I like everything,more possibilities = better
...and synth & video games & dirty/broken and so on :)
I know that's all good pedals, but right now I can't try them all...
@MeSoFuzzy
Source Audio Poly mode filter sound very nice also...it's very very big pedal and I didn't hear any response from buyers.

@Tristan, thanks for links :hello:

thanks you all for advices :thumb:
