See, I'd definitely gotten that effect with my LM-2 (if you can find one of those, GET IT; prob the best comp Boss made), but I never thought to run echo into it. This sounds super cool.

Spent an hour looking for this thread today. I got an Accountant and wanted to see if it would do it. Sadly it did not.

Re: Interesting ducking effect with compressor
u generally want high ratio,
the difference of volume between the part of the sound that you want to do the ducking (louder), and the stuff that you want to be ducked out of the way (softer) is important.
then u sweep the threshold down to where your louder part is triggering the compression a lot, and your softer is not at all or only some.
output gain up! so that your softer stuff is now loud. sometimes its helpful to have something after the compression to turn back down. things can get scary w/ high settings!
the wider the difference between the two sounds, the more it will push and pull. hopefully if u have it set nice, u won't get too many big fluctuations in volume.
if things get too raunchy, turn up the softer stuff or pull the threshold and/or ratio back.
if not raunchy enough, turn down, push them controls up.
since the compression is high when your ducking sound hits, the amount of compression goes way up causing things to squash down, but not get necessarily louder.
when your ducking sound fades, the stuff that was pushed down now starts to swell way up.
this is where your attack and release *can* come in, and u can kinda control how the duck and swell works.
experiment! some comps can go a lot harder than others. and some just sound really good how they do it.
the weird thing about compression is the more controls u have the better sculpting abilities, but sometimes u might feel like the controls don't really do anything to the sound.
u don't necessarily need all of them. but it can be easier to find the sweet spots and give u a wider range of sweetness. sometimes that shit just gets in the way.
i hope this makes sense! compression is hard to explain.
if u have a side chain input and do like a two channel or stereo or dry/wet setup u could do it that way too.

Archy what pedal format compressor would you recommend for this kind of stuff? I think I remember you liking the VFE's compressor?

Re: Interesting ducking effect with compressor
yea that one was cool, the white horse! the empress is a really high quality like "studio" sounding one. i like the ones that get dirty but don't fart out at heavy settings so u can push it. my favorite is the SP compression.
