Should I? Quad Reverb (I did)

Post by O Drones »

So, I need an amp, and this one is near me. I know it's more than you'd pay in The US, but these are much rarer over here. Anyway, thoughts? Experience with them?

Do you like how it sounds? If so go for it.

If you dig the tone of those then yeah, man. I love single coils and a low gain fuzz or OD through old Fenders.

It's a Twin with four 12 inch speakers. Biggest reason not to would be whether you can cope with moving something of that size and weight. Although rarer than Twins, they usually sell for less than a Twin because of these issues.

Go check out the Selmer they have on there. Looks like a better deal, certainly easier to move around.

Yeah, those are awesome, they're actually pretty popular in Glasgow, a few folk I know use those Treble n Bass heads. I don't have a cab though, would need to buy one, then lug that and a head. I need those cleans too, I like lots of clean headroom and I dunno if the Selmer could compete with the Quad.

Haha, I'm cool with that. I've been lugging heavy amps around for plenty time. I'm cool with the Quad's weight.

I can vouch for those old Selmer TnB heads. Loud with lots of clean headroom that just starts to growl when you crank it up high and jumper the channels. Total whore for fuzz pedals. Plus you have the benefit of getting a couple of different cabs to use with it and being able to move it around easily. If I had the cash though I'd probably spring for that Fender because it's shiny and sexy.

I prefer my Sunn over both the V4's I used to have. But I'm on a lone island by not caring for V4's so much. Or at all. I had an early one and a later one.

Back on subject, that quad reverb is definitely gonna be a pain to carry around. When I had my twin it had Weber clones of Jensens and I couldn't get it to sound too good with pedals and gain at the tuning I play and the gear I was using, but as soon as I swapped the speakers it was excellent and sounded great with fuzz and drive.

Christ, I thought my Twin was bad enough at times (getting to gigs via trains is always fun), but the thought of that just made my back panic.
I suppose if you have a ride, it wouldn't be an issue.

That and it looks imposing as hell.

i'd hit it--they definitely are rarer than hens' teeth, especially in that condition over there, and it should sound great. that one isn't loaded with jbl's, so moving it shouldn't be impossible.
