Sunn Spectrum 1

Post by Psyre »

I came across a spectrum 1 anf matching 1x15 cab at a local shop priced at $800. Hard to come across much abt them. Seems sort of like a higher watt bassman equivalent? Somewhat interested.

I'm pretty sure that's one of the Sunn-built Dynaco Mark III's (Maybe the IV).

Anyway, 80 45 (only a pair of EL34's) Watts, single channel. Probably sounds bitchin'.

Also relatively sure that it has the Fender tone stack, but I could be making that shit up.

If The Spectrum I is the 2x EL34 amp then it's only 45 watts. I think the II is the 2x 6550/KT88 which would be 60 watts. I don't believe it's the same circuit as a bass man, but I could be wrong. Seems a quite a bit over priced at $800. Does the 1x15 have the original JBL speaker?

SPECTRUM I

1966 Lower priced all around amp with the controls of the 100S but a smaller output amplifier section utilizing a pair of EL34s. A 5AR4 rectifier, 7025 preamp and 7199 phase inverter was standard for the 40 watt amps. The 38″x24″x11 1/2″ bottom utilized a D130 in a bass reflex design. Discontinued by ’68 catalog.
