All right! 18 fret jobs done! Necks are now essentially completed and it is time to work on bodies.
Getting to the bodies requires getting a machine operational. I picked up this 12" jointer backnin May. It is from the 20s-30s. When I bought it it was is in pieces. Getting it back together was easy enough BUT getting the tables levelled and everything aligned was a HUGE pain in the ass!
I finally got it done and yesterday was able to run all ofthe boards for body blanks.
It's a Northfield jointer. It was made 2 miles from the house I grew up in. Kinda cool!
Yeah the Attache is getting a re-boot. Not that there was anything inherently wrong with the original interpretation but doing it this way will allow for a cleaner end result.
Instead of a neck through it will be a set neck. Doing so means that the body can receive the carving as one piece instead of trying to line up pieces. It didn't work well the first time.
Also I will be moving to front loading controls which will eliminate the need for a back plate and the extra hassle involved with rear mounted controls.
The neck will sit proud of the body which will allow for pickups and bridge to be mounted to the top with no routing. Doing this will also make bigbys an option for this model!
Finally I will be hollowing out the bodies and gluing a cap on the back just for that nice chambered spanky sound and light weight.
All in all it is a total makeover!

Sounds awesome! The Attache was originally my favourite shape, but I've moved on to the Coquette. I think I prefer the new shape you have in mind. Will the price go up do you think?
The new shape?
Well there are two new ones this time around and they have yet to be priced.
As for any existing models I am not anticipating any price increases.
The new models (Provocateur and Riddle) will most likely be priced around the price of the Attache.
