Noob question about speaker sizes

Post by Ugly Nora »

So, I am hoping to get a Verellen Meatsmoke if and when I buy a house in a secluded area that won't have issues with neighbors. If all goes to plan, I hope to have this achieved by February or March.

My question is, can someone explain the benefit of the extra 18 inch speaker in the below cabinet? Is this simply louder? Or produce more bass? Or both? Something else?

I would be using it for personal use (not in a band) for guitar and bass and I plan on getting a didgeridoo to play through it as well.

Basically, I am wondering if option #1 without the 18 inch is suitable enough to play a bass through?

2. MATCHING 4X10" + 1X18" EMINENCE LOADED CABINET AVAILABLE FOR $1199.99 MAP

Thanks for any insight.

Either one would do. The addition of the 18" is for the doomy/boomy folk. For me, if money wasn't an issue, I'd get the one with the 18" but I'm obnoxious. The 4x10 will work fine for you though it seems.

The added 18" will increase the frequency range that the cabinet produces further below that of just the 4x10 as well as marginally increasing the perceived volume of the cab. An 18" speaker usually has a noticeable high end roll of which means that the perceived volume increase would come more from what you feel than what you hear.
