stereo amps with separate dirt chains will help. although 95% of the time two piece bands just always sound like they're missing something to me no matter what they do. why not get a bassist? you just can't do counter point and super awesome harmonizing parts that make your band sound huge with a two piece (assuming one of those pieces is drums).

On the other hand, only in a two piece can you play whatever the fuck you like on a whim without having to think if the other guy will figure out what you're trying to do and play in the same key or not.

I agree that your best results would be from finding a bass player. Bass is an integral part of a one guitar band's sound.

A big reason we don't have a bassist in my band right now is so that the drummer and I can play whenever our busy schedules allow without having to rely on someone else. It's hard enough as it is to get together to practice with just the two of us, haha.

I use two amps when we play, and like everyone else, I think that helps a lot with the sound. I also play in open tunings, which I think, combined with my playing style, helps to fill it out a bit. But I'm really never sure if I've been able to nail a nice, full sound live.

Man this thread just really cemented the fact that I really want a stereo amp set up.
Especially if it was a decent tube bass amp and cab
Why must I always want more stuff?!
This music addiction is terrible
