Need help deciding on the right pedal

Post by greendoom »

Alright so i have had a marshall jvm210h for a while before i started getting into bands like melvins, sleep, electric wizard etc. I just got an emperor 6x12 cab and i have been using my mxr fullbore metal distortion pedal trying to dial in some fuzz but i figured i should use that for when i'm playing other music without the fuzz drone tone. So i'm stuck between getting a russian big muff, a newer big muff, and a proco rat2. Which of these would do the trick for that good fuzzy sludge sound?, or any other pedal suggestions?

Out of those, I'd say the russian would be good for a thick/looser sound where the Rat could cut some more. If you have the ability to try out the pedals before hand, try running your MXR into one of the muffs and see what variety you can get.

Thank you! Unfortunately no music stores in my area carrier big muffs etc. but i could always order from guitar center and return it within 30 days, but i always was looking at dunwich pedals, like the cthulhu and wizard fuzz.

^ This pretty much. Hard to go wrong with a Pharoah. The Hoof is great too!

If you're after more gain and tightness/aggressiveness, I'd go with a Supercollider or Blunderbuss.

RAT is badass too, those multi-RAT options like the Iron Pig or Acid Pig offer tons of variety and sound sooooo good. Not as much girth but plenty of gain and bite, cut the mix nicely.
