Aluminum/metal pickguards

Post by osbornkt »

I want to make one for my tele. I inquired at some custom places, but nobody was into making a four p'up guard in a hybrid tele standard/deluxe shape...So looks like I'm on my own.
So.
Who has made one themselves?
What gauge metal did you use?
How'd ya do it: We talking tin snips/dremel tool/voodoo magic here?
I'd love to see any that y'all have made!
Happy Dealings with: julius_deane, HeavyXIII, RobFossil, letsgocoyote, darkfields, colin, MEC, sanfordandsonny, delaydecay, aedes, leastwise, foomanfat...

I'm interested, too.
I bought a couple of sheets of .090" 3/32" 11 gauge for about $6 each. I settled on that size after looking around online to see what people use.
I was planning to use a dremel and/or a coping saw to cut it out.

I bought a decorative metal plate off ebay, pressed it flat and cut it to shape with a dremmel.

Nice. I'm thinking dremel will have to be the way to go. What shape guard are you making? Keep me updated!

That's awesome. How did you finish the edges?

I just used files, more fine as i went. , I finished it with sanding blocks and went from 400 to 3000 grit for seriously smooth feel. Overkill but what the hell, why not.
