I own zero MXR pedals but I was looking for a Micro Amp when I saw thisunivalve wrote:Got something for those MXR things, huh?
Anyway didn't realise Andertons were already selling them, for £120 though I guess I'll just get the regular version second hand for £40 ;p

I do.univalve wrote:Got something for those MXR things, huh?
Early MXR fuzz boxes (Distortion+, Distortion III) tend to sound lame, in my opinion. I had a "Fullbore Metal" pedal, and gave it away: I wasn't impressed with it. But right now, I think they've really got a winner with the new Super Badass Distortion.
I love MXR's modulation and tone shaping effects. I think the MXR Flanger, for the price, is easily the best on the market. Comparing the MXR M117R flanger to the Boss HF-2 I had in the late 80's, there's no comparison. I was really slow to adopt the Script Phase 90; I couldn't stand the idea of just one knob. I let that prejudice prevent me from using a great effect for a long time. The Carbon Copy delay is an excellent analog delay, especially when you consider for the length of delay, modulation effect, size of footprint, and price. I'm a huge fan of the Dunlop Rotovibe, and the MXR 10-band (and even the 6-band) eq's are awesome. MXR's buffer-optional BC-108 fuzz is excellent.
Given what's available from Boss, Digitech, Line6, and other large established stompbox makers, I think MXR/Dunlop, including the Way Huge line, eclipsed Boss about 7 years ago. Since coming on board and bringing Way Huge with him, Jeorge Tripps has, in my humble opinion, really helped develop and extend MXR/Dunlop.
I was interested in the MXR FET Driver that came out for Joe Bonamassa - not for the sake of J.B., but because it's a tranny version of the Butler Tube Driver, and sounds fantastic. As of now, there were only 500 ever built. I have an eBay search going on for one now...
Her: "Why do you need to build 'some more' amps?"
Me: "Because that will make me happy. That's important for you, right? For me to be happy?"

I have a Micro Chorus. Only one knob, but that's all I really need. All analog, true bypass, and you can easily find it for about $60. Compare that to (digital) Boss choruses that cost twice as much, don't have a nice warm sound like the MXR, and have a buffered bypass.
MXR has stuck with analog circuitry for a while, and they're on to something with that. Boss needs to catch onto that and stop with the digital effects (well, delay/reverb aside...I remember the Boss PH-3 being one of the worst pedals I've ever owned, while the PH-1r seems to be a really great phase).

You should see if those sites ship to the US, they'll knock off 1/6th off the price in VAT in that case to offset shipping. If they won't and you're desperate I can ship them to you instead.
