Re: Biggest influences?
I'll just list the ones I don't think have been listed yet.
The Cinema Strange guys
Daniel Ash
William Faith
Robert Smith
Bernard Summers
Most are kinda kinda textural. Most of my "regular" less effects whoring influences have been mentioned already.

Re: Biggest influences?
I picked up guitar because of Peter Cosey who played with Miles Davis from 1973-1975. But I picked guitar as more of a means to an end.
Biggest influences for music now are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Saucerful of Secrets-era Pink Floyd, Ash Ra Tempel, Boredoms, Bardo Pond, Boris, Sunn O))), and Hisham Bharoocha.

Re: Biggest influences?
when i started i pretty much wanted to play like Blink 182 and various radio bands (i wasn't that into music)
then i shred for a couple years so it was people like Paul Gilbert, Satriani, and Vai
now it's stuff like MBV, Dinosaur Jr., Math Band Tapping (Minus the Bear, Maps and Atlases, etc.), Cymbals Eat Guitars, Modest Mouse, and various things that have a really cool sound that make me go

Chicks.
And anyone who says they didn't like Blink 182 will be eviscerated by small woodland creatures.

Re: Biggest influences?
Got me started:
Guitar:
Chris Smither (I got a tape of a live performance, and he was absolutely insane - sounded like three guitarists, rather than just one guy singing and playing)
Hendrix
Pete FOOKIN' Townshend and th' BLOODY Who
Steppenwolf (hey, I'm being honest here)
Bass:
Flea
Les Claypool
Jason Newstead
Cliff Burton
Seriously altered my brain between HS and college:
Ride
Hüsker Dü
Yo La Tengo
My Bloody Valentine (duh)
Fugazi
Jawbox
Inspires me now:
All that old stuff, plus:
QOTSA / Desert Sessions / EODM / the mere concept of playing music every waking moment possible
Dinosaur Jr.
J Robbins as a whole, or my idea of him
The Weakerthans
Mission of Burma

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: Biggest influences?
Holy god damn.... IDK...
I guess, just in general:
Agathocles
Sore Throat
My Bloody Valentine
Slowdive
Masonna
Xome
Teenage Jesus & the Jerks
Harry Pussy
(early) Butthole Surfers
Crass
Subhumans
Throbbing Gristle
SPK
Right now, and as of the last couple of years, those have been the bands that've probably influenced my "music" and writing the most.
