replace "plays decently" with "doesn't have any serious problems such as frets that cut your fingers, whacked out neck, faulty wiring etc..."
I know when I was like 13 when I started playing I couldn't tell the difference in sound until about two or three years in, so I don't think sound matters as much, my experience is entirely subjective of course I could definitely tell a difference in playability though
