GTAV is stellar. cruising the pacific highway with flying lotus's station on blast+JB Smoove (from Curb) and Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down, This is The End, The Foot Fist Way) as talk radio hosts. unfuckwithable

I've been watching lots of Dragon's Dogma the past week, it's sure got some cool dungeon crawls and monster fights in it.. could be better with some radio stations though....

right now though i'm wishing i could fast forward to oct 29 for the next assassin's creed.

I would love a Red Dead sequel. Or just another game kind of like it. Really any open world Rockstar game that has a unique setting like that. A samurai game like that would be pretty sweet.

As for AC. Meh. I played all of them, and enjoyed them for the most part, but the end of the last game kind of pissed me off. Unless it's one of the best games of the year I'm probably done with the AC series.

I have been hearing so much good stuff about GTAV. I am desperately holding off since I have a newborn, and I know that I wouldn't exactly be the most responsible parent if I could play GTA V all the time

Trey, do your kid a favour and don't let him see the game! I'm not one of those guys who poopoos games like GTA but it's so violent and gross in parts, it's really brutal and inappropriate for a kid. I know you know that, just don't even let him watch over your shoulder!

Here's a really funny (and positive) review of the game by my favourite reviewer, Angry Joe:

He has some interesting stats in the video... when GTA4 launched it made 300 million dollars on the first day. GTA5 sold 800 million dollars on day one, by day 3 it was over 1 billion. Unbelievable numbers hey...

I still think Dark Souls is way better!

man you guys, quit tempting me w/ GTAV. i've only played one of those (3 i think?) & loved it but don't wanna get hooked before AC4...
& t-rey i totally liked the 3 part series of AC2 better than AC3. & i didn't particularly like the sailboat maneuvering in AC3. so AC4, crossing my fingers that they've changed control of that up...

man that makes me wanna go back & play the AC2 series again. oof...

Ryan - I am totally on board with you. I'd hate for some of the first stuff she hears to be from that game. I mean, beating hookers to death is good clean fun, just not for infants

space6oy - I think AC2 was the best in the series by far. I love the character of Ezio and how big the adventure in that game felt. If AC3 had not been set in revolutionary America I would have lost interest very quickly, although assassinating fools from the trees was so much fun.

My fiancee bought me a PS3 for my birthday, so I've got quite a few games I need to catch up on now. I'm currently playing Ni No Kuni (loving it so far, haven't played a good Japanese RPG in way too long), and the PS3 bundle came with all the God of War games so I'll start on those in a bit.

I'm thinking I need to get Heavy Rain, MGS4, Last of Us, Dark Souls and the Uncharted games at some point. Anyone have other suggestions of PS3 exclusives I should hit up?

Now I think I need to buy a new tv though, I have the PS3 set up in our spare bedroom/music room and the tv in there is an old crt 20". Seems like I really ought to get something hd to really take advantage of the PS3.

That's awesome, Colin! You should totally get a high def tv, you really wanna see the PS3 in full resolution, the games are awesome looking. Your PS3 titles are perfect, all awesome games! One amazing PS3 exclusive that I love is Demon's Souls, the spiritual predecessor to the multi-console release Dark Souls.

For me, a desert island gaming setup would be a PS3, massive tv, and 3 games: Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2. (I can't leave for the desert island until March 2014 when DS2 comes out)

Trey, it would be awesome if you showed your little girl all the nice things you can do in GTA5... like how to drive a car safely and responsibly, how to help people with money and items, how to dress nicely... you could call it Grand Giving Auto 5. It would be hilarious if you made walk-through videos like that, demonstrating all the generous and kind acts of GTA5!

I waste no time; I bought a nice new 37" HD tv for the bedroom yesterday evening. I picked up Heavy Rain and the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD version yesterday as well, and my fiancee got Little Big Planet. Not going to be buying any new pedals or music gear for a while now though.

Red Dead Redemption is an amazing game. If Rockstar don't start working on it now that they've almost finished their behemoth that is GTA V, I will be extremely disappointed. Hopefully they have been working on it behind the scenes. They've always been excellent at keeping things secret.

Uncharted games and The Last of Us. They are the best games of this generation in my opinion.

Little Big Planet is all kinds of fun. The God of War games are great and the first five can be had as the GoW Collection or something like that. MGS4 was very cool, but probably not the best choice unless you have played the other games.

dude, shadow of the colossus is the one reason why i still have my PS2. i missed that they put out an HD version for PS3. further reason than just last of us that i'm craving one now.

i picked up far cry 3 yesterday to hold me over until AC4 is out. it starts off pretty great, though a bit frustrating, and its map blows in comparison to others. needs to be able to zoom in WAY further...

chatted w/ the two gamestop dudes working yesterday, they BOTH had played EVERYTHING i asked about, & they both think the sequel to red dead has been in the works and is being kept hush hush...

Yeah, I suspect it is. They began designing GTA V immediately after GTA IV was released, even while sister studios (can't remember which) were working on the PC port and the online content. Although they don't release games that rapidly, they do work on them for an inordinate amount of time. I can imagine they've been harbouring ideas for Red Dead Redemption 2 the day it was released and sold so many copies and received such glowing reviews. There is so much you can do with such a distinctive gaming concept and era.

NSFW: show
SPOILDER - I hope they stay away from John Marston's son and John Marston himself. Although he was a natural and obvious follow-up to John's character after he shockingly and dramatically died, I have spent too much emotional energy in that story for them to continue with it. I would prefer them to start fresh like they do with GTA. Maybe they could keep the same time-frame—though I'd prefer to stay away from 'modern' western themes and settings such as cars and cities—or go back in time a bit, setting up the story that is Red Dead Redemption in a very far-reaching and cryptic manner.

HRNG man, aside from the map not zooming in enough & some of the audio, freaking loving far cry 3 now. :omg:

soundtrack too often gets all intense like i'm in trouble when not a damn thing is happening. stupid.
also every time i loot a body or a crate and get money out of it it makes a sound like a bullet whizzing by. also stupid.

aside from those though, and sometimes getting myself into way too much trouble & getting killed, it's sort of like a combination of assassin's creed & hitman & when driving sort of like GTA or LA noire, but on an island full of a running wild zoo that even attacks each other & other humans (nice touch) and "pirate" drug gang members.

have i mentioned how much i fucking love sniper rifles?
:success:

edit: oh yeah also stupid that when loading a saved game it keeps whatever you've accomplished / gathered but starts you at a checkpoint instead of where you were when it saved. pretty annoying...
overall though seriously badass despite needing a few adjustments.

also also sorta kicking myself for picking this up when i was just looking to fill time until my preordered AC4 is out. it's probably gonna take me way longer than that...

Are you playing it on PC or on a console? It should bring you back to where you were last on the PC version. I haven't played it yet but I can imagine that being extremely annoying and stupid if it is the case. One of the biggest draws of a PC is the quick saving function. To force you to respawn at a checkpoint would defeat the purpose and invalidate the PCs value.
