If your device is running slowly...
You're either running an iPhone 4 or are just experiencing some glitching and a software restore may be in order for ya.
On my 4S there was pretty minimal sluggishness save for when going from an App to the Home Screen, that was just the fade out animation taking place. Otherwise I thought it ran quite well. Better than iOS 5 on my 3GS and certain better than iOS 6 runs on the 3GS.
I thought iOS 6 ran slowly on the iPhone 4 and didn't expect the iPhone 4 to be able run iOS 7. It does -- but it's definitely sluggish.
On the iPhone 5S shit is running very smooth. That being said -- when I got my 5S I just set it up as new and signed in to my iCloud account. I don't play many games on my iPhone (because I don't know of any that are any good -- I just played Final Fantasy on my iPad). Generally whenever there is a big software refresh I'll start new -- it allows me to experience the software and know exactly how it runs on my device.
In so far as battery life -- I do not have Apps set to automatically update. That's probably minimal as far as time suckage but I want control over it. I don't have Facebook on my iPhone. It saved so much battery after I took it off -- it's unreal. I have notifications turned off for every social networking App. I don't give a shit if somebody responded to an Instagram post. I'll see it eventually.
Shrug. I'm weird with my phone, I guess.
If your battery drains in faster than 4 or 5 hours there is the possibility that something is running continuouslyI, be it a runaway app or something erroneously triggering the OS to think it is doing so. If you live near an Apple Store you can make an appointment, go in and have them test it.
I'll be here all week, folks.
