Skip, so sorry to hear that, My condolences to you, your wife and all your friends.
It's good of you to host your friends after the funeral. Sometimes helping others get through the greiving process is the best thing for a soul in pain.
Your mom must feel terrible about the poor cat. Thats an awefull situation. Life sure does like to pile it on at times doesn't it.

Thanks John  Yeah I think it will be good for me and the wife both to host. We have quite a few friends with kids now and we have everything needed for them to attend and have a place to sleep or be entertained so we felt it was the best course of action. Well that and were the only people in the group close to the funeral that actually owns a house not just a 1 to 2 bed room condo.
She does, I know it wasn't her fault and we have a feeling we know who was but I can't confront him without causing major turbulence inside my all ready depleted family, or getting into a fist fight with him. And yes it does like to pile on all at once.

That is the reason I love doom music and the whole reason I got into it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Short of maybe Suicidal Black Metal I feel that doom / funeral doom is the most cathartic of "metals", I would want to include say Converge and PG.99 as THE most cathartic music but I would have to place them more into Punk than Metal.

I think that the majority of the Doom Room branches out. It's just that we all have a predilection for the gear that is generally associated with it. BIG, LOUD, MEAN.

When it comes to what heals our ailments, mentally or physically, we all go to different places. Sometimes I'll go to Agalloch or Ash Borer or Wolves in the Throne Room to take me into dark and quiet to violent flailing. Other times I'll head to Converge for that unrelenting aural assault. Sometimes I head to Mogwai's Mr. Beast and turn it up really loud and get lost in it. Every mood, every situation, has its own uniqueness that requires just one particular thing.

The Doom Room lets us find some things that really hit the nail on the head.

Man, being without the Internet for two weeks has been a nightmare. How is everyone? I don't think I can go through what is probably 30 pages. Any new gear acquisitions?

Sorry to hear about your troubles skip. As you may know, I lost a good friend really suddenly earlier this year and a dear old pet last month. I feel for you for sure. I know the pain , except that I can't imagine facing both in one week.

Thanks Parker, right now its hard to decipher which hurts more... The worst was finding out both within 24 hours. I still haven't told our daughter that Gixxer (our cat) isn't coming home from grandma's, I have no idea what to tell her.

wanted to mention for the tacoma folks, our show on the 7th unfortunately got cancelled. venue problems. too bad. there is some chance we'll be playing tacoma with wolvserpent at the end of the month. so hopefully that'll happen. we're definitely playing porltand and seattle with them on oct 24th and 25th.

check em out. long ass intro, but i like it. good, artsy kind of doom.
