I like these guys. The drive sounds gnarly as all hell when the battery is dying. I've recorded Rhodes through it and it punches through a busy mix very easily. I wish like hell I had the skill to turn one into a pedal.

I have one that sounds neat but the sagginess cranked is too weird most of the time. I forget what was going on since I haven't played it in a while, but IIRC it just runs out of voltage swing. I think with higher voltage on a variable wall wart it behaved more like a typical amp. I might look into it again and adding a charge pump circuit, maybe defeatable for fun.

I play mainly SS around the house. Pathfinder 15R and ZT Lunchbox. The LED and Tweedbassman's trem mod have gotten the Pathfinder a lot more of the playing time. I also will pull out the Smoky for fun and games from time to time.

See, I've tried quite a few of them, and they have always been kinda quiet and bland.

That's actually one of the quirks I love about it! It can dip real hard when you slam it. Definitely not the kind of thing you want to use all the time, but it's fun and I don't have any other devices that can do what it does in that regard.

Honestly those Roland Cubes are kinda neat. Not strictly solid state in the sense that everyone else is talking tho.

The Fender Frontman amps can get a somewhat pleasantly nasty Burzum-esque tone with their distortion circuits but aren't much good for anything else.

Every Gallien Krueger I've played is rad. Old or new, they're all good. Peavey Transtube, and solo series stuff is awesome. Super loud (at least the guitar stuff). ACC is good, too. Prices I've seen as of late, though, are not really worth it. Fender Mustang amps are bitchin'.

I've also had two of these, one in head form and another in a 4x10 combo, which sounded AWESOME until I blew them up
Great amps for short money, although both times my tech gave me the "you kids play these things way too loud, these are really bedroom volume amps..."
Special low-frequency version.

Fuck yeah. I had a Mark VI as my main amp for almost 10 years. It's fucking awesome. Tons of eq options, can do 2 ohms, has an fx loop, has a crossover, and it has a really weird and gnarly break-up when you crank it.

I remember when I took my TS-50B in to get fixed, the tech asked me what I set it on. When I responded with "Everything at 10" he said "Well...I mean, you really shouldn't do that." I DON'T NEED YOUR JUDGMENT JUST FIX THE AMP

i recently scored a Sunn beta lead head in great shape that is really cool. i really like being able to use both inputs/eq's and it loves pedals. now im kinda on a Sunn hunt for a redface concert lead or coliseum lead head. also check out musicman amps. they aren't 100% solid state but they kick ass and i think they are worth mentioning.

I would love to try a Roland Jazz Chorus.
