new "beginner" guitar day...

Post by JohnnyC »

something is wrong with me...lately ive come full circle in my gear quest...and back to being happy with solidstate amps and beginner guitars lol!
i still have my prized possesisons but yeah, been gassing for a mira/sg vibe to add to the collection, but just couldnt justify the expense.

i had a spare set of tron/toaster rip off looking humbuckers and a spare set of strings lying around...so figured i give em a home.
picked up a used GAX GIO ibanez "Crafted in China" lol
like this...

pretty much ripped the strings and stock pups out before even plugging it in.

and after hte pickup install and setup and knob swap

could do with a tuner upgrade but other than that...surpringly doesnt sound/play half bad.
i still sound as good as i do(ie crap) when playing on this or using my PRS lol

Nice! Looks really good now.
My friend has one of the same model I think and I remember being pretty impressed with the build quality and playability for what it's worth.

comfy body shape too, I've always liked the look of these ones:

You, and me both!

Guitar looks awesome. The knob and pup swap makes it look super custom!

i really used to hate the look of these bodies...my ex guitarist in a band had one and yuck. kinda ironic that i now have one lol
i like the idea (or entertaining the idea) of modding it to a stop tail of some sort...might have some unsightly empty screw holes to contend with.

the other idea is...to install a hm2 circuit straight into it...all knobs on max.

My first guitar was an Ibanez GAX70. I threw it in a bonfire this summer.

I regret it and I don't at all.

These guitars are pretty sweet actually. Kinda remind me of a more comfortable SG.
Didn't the guitarist for The Mars Volta use one on their early albums?
