Yeah, you should definitely make 'em an offer on it. Even for $400, that's not too bad.

they have a matching univox bass that in the repair shop for a new set of tuners. thats when im gonna try to slither my way in there. get the pair.

ON TOPIC the danos have 12 individual intonation abjusters? HNG. wanty

I've got 3 currently. The Eastwood would need locking tuners and a bridge that lets you intonate each string, probably a better nut as well. If you plan on using a tremolo on a 12 string everything needs to work flawlessly or you are in for some tuning issues. The Dano and the schecter posted both have individually intonated strings, and are probably better out of the box, but they cant go "BWEEEOOOOWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEE"

Best option for a trem equipped 12 out of the box is probably this dillion

That Dillon does look pretty nice. Another worth checking out if I do end up getting a 12. I think if I was to get one I'm probably leaning towards the Gretsch now, but this Dillion is a definitely a new contender.

I also have an 8 string Kramer bass I brought back from the dead. this things a ton of fun.

I've been pretty curious about 8 string basses. Would love to play one just to see how they feel and sound.
Or maybe I should just jump straight into the 18-string bass?

Bear in mind I don't use these for what people traditionally think of when 12's get mentioned. Mine get high gain fuzzed out tri amped doom tones and I find the octaves (jangle jangle) let me eq much darker than normal without getting eaten by the bass. I also make full use of the 24 frets on the Dillion.

This is similar to what I plan on using a 12 for. Not so much doom but definitely high gain and noise. I feel like throwing some octave strings in the mix could produce some interesting noises and tones.

Oh yeah man, you should do it. I have one intro part where I have a slow gear echoed effect going with medium gain fuzz and I use a slide to make these wierd whale sounds. FUN. With the pedals and amps I use I get an amazing huge sound. Every once and a while I plug in a six string and get reminded why I mess around with the 12s

The dano Style bridge is on a few different guitars and the saddle design is whats on two of mine. the main string is adjusted normally and the octave is done by loosening the screw you can see to the right of the main part of the saddle. The only thing I dont like about it is that the octave string tends to be a bit lower than the other one but it's not a huge deal. Intonation can be a bit of a struggle but once you have it done it's not something you need to constantly do.

Much easier to adjust but I prefer the feel of a more strat style trem as opposed to a bigsby. If you went with the eastwood this might work for you

Yeah I noticed that when trying to find an answer on the interwebs. It seems that its octave before root on pretty much all 12s other than Rics.
I'm sure it doesn't make that much of a difference but to me it just seems more logical to have root before octave
I guess I'd just have to try them both out. Now to get my hands on a Ric...

they're quite expensive now. the necks are a bit thin for some on the 330 and 360 (forget the 381 unless you're rich). I prefer the wider neck on my 660. i like the root string first on the lower strings--to my ear, it helps the articulation on single note runs.

Hmmm, yeah. It seems like having the octave first would help the note to "pop" more. Am I right? I built a nine string and had to place the extra strings after the roots, because I didn't cut a new nut.

It makes sense to have the root first to me, so if you wanted to hit it without the octave string you could do so, albeit very carefully.

Rics are gorgeous. I hope to find a 4003 that speaks to me someday, I've only had the pleasure of playing one and it wasn't quite right. Would love to try some of their guitars, too.

Do any of you folks talking about non-traditional uses for a 12 string (noise related stuff) have an clips of you or other folks doing this? I would love to hear it. Might make me buy a cheap one to make some noise. Or maybe spring for a Burns Double Six if I was feeling nutty.

I've always wanted a Burns with the "Wild Dog Sound".

That greenburst is sexy.
