See, the thing is, the chips in those pedals are both obsolete, like REALLY obsolete so that's a problem, they can't just put them out in the original form... so say they decide to re-design them though (actually wouldn't be too hard at all to convert them to available components, you'd have to loose some headroom in the delay but whatevs) you can bet that they would completely overhaul the design and it just wouldn't be the same thing...

I can't think of many big guy re-issues that stayed completely true to the originals, EHX were/are good at it for certain things (not all) and A/DA seem to be on the ball and MXR managed on a handful of products but that's just how it goes.

I'd actually grab one of those DODs if I had the spare cash just for the old yellow 250 box, but they've even tampered with that.

I do have one hope though, as Digitech/DOD are a very large company, they possibly could do what MXR/Behringer did and reissue an or maybe a couple of out of production BBD chip to build some of there old chorus/flangers/delays 'close' to original but I doubt it...

That stuff didn't sell when they released it. The Grunge and Death Metal pedals did. Under Harman's ownership they're even less likely to put out a niche product than a mass market one. Thankfully, we've got a wealth of interesting small-volume pedal companies now.
Except none of them make anything like the Meat Box.

I agree that the Meat Box, Buzz Box, Gonkulator and shit like that didn't sell at the time. But it was all they had that was unique. Why resurrect a dead brand, just to re-release the most boring and mainline pedals that they had? If they just wanted to bring back the 250 and the Grunge and the Death Metal, couldn't they have just released them as Digitech pedals? Why bother with the DOD thing?

DOD is forever cool in my book for the DFX line of delays. Couldn't care less about these reissues though.

I don't get the hype around the meatbox and gonkulator. I had both and was not impressed. The meatbox is just a subharmonic generator(dbx makes these), and gonkulator is just ring and distortion(you can come up with a much better version by having a seperate ring mod and dirt box). Never tried the buzz box. I feel that the current offerings of boutique pedals makes weird DOD pedals pointless.

Agreed on the Gonkulator, it's not anything all that groundbreaking. The buzz box I'm pretty sure is just a Blue Box and a Grunge together, so you can pretty much get that nowadays too. But there really still isn't anything at all like the Meatbox in pedal form. Yes, dbx makes one in rack, but not many of us are set up to have a rack unit in our rigs.

Mantic Conceptual makes Meatbox clones now. They're true bypass and also have expression control. They go for like $150 or you can get the slimmed down version without the dry output for like $110

Interesting, I hadn't heard of that company before. I just checked out his website, looks like they're 199 and 155 for the two versions.

Yeah they seem pretty quality. I've been contemplating picking up one of the Density Brutes

Oh I didn't see the Brute at first. OK, yeah, that one is 115. Anyways, glad that SOMEone finally stepped up and made a MeatBox. Juan has only been raving about his for years now.

I had one and I loved it. I think the only reason I got rid of mine was because I was playing out regularly and it shredded a 1x15 I had been using with it. But damn it was awesome for recording

Not to get too off track, but I felt the Mantic Density Hulk, while GREAT, did not have the same REALLY AWESOME sweep ranges in the 30hz and 60hz of the Meatbox. Everything on the Mantic happened in the last 2% of the sweep for those two controls, which just so happen to be the most important. The Meatbox REALLY shined in that aspect, and from what I experienced, proved to sound better. TO ME. The Density Hulk is built sssssuuupppeeerr well and I wouldn't hesitate to sample one'o'dem'bishes.

I have NEVER liked DOD. Dunno why. I think their pedals feel like cheap shit and sound bad. That's just my opinion obviously though.

Unfortunately, you are not entitled to your opinion unless it reflects the consensus of The Brood. Re-evaluate your assessment and submit accordingly in the next ten (10) business days or your license will be revoked.
