Hey Context users!

Post by osbornkt »

Does your Context sound like it's clipping like mad whenever you strum remotely hard? Mine is doing that and it sounds much less enjoyable than I had hoped...Anyone else experienced this?
None of my other verbs or delays make the clipping sound when I play them hard, so it does seem isolated to just the Context.
Running it through a Sovtek Mig50 if that may give any insight.

No, mine does not. Sounds really fantastic. Try turning the attack down, then add moderate decay and blend, see how that sounds. Seems like there's an issue tho...

Yeah, I've tried it with attack all the way down, and typically run it with it maybe at 9 o'clock max. But that being said, it does it on all the modes, so it's not a thing of just too much verb...I'll contact Curt and see what he has to say about it.

Have not noticed this, but did experience a noisy pot with the unit sitting on the rug in my room. No noise when off the rug, so likely a static issue in my place.

I don't have one with me at the moment but I seem to remember clipping issues when I first got it but that was resolved by turning down the blend. I believe anything past noon was problematic.. Is your clip led lighting up?

I don't have a clipping led on mine :( ...I didn't even know any run of them did until you mentioned it.

That would shed some light on the issue (pun intended)

Clipping led is news to me too. Google imaged that shit and behold, the early ones definitely came equipped with it.

Yeah, seriously. I want a clipping led! That seems like a feature that should have stayed.

After talking with Curt, the DSP chip clips at +3dB, so there's not an incredible amount of headroom on it when the pedal is engaged...Seems like some form of clipping indication should have remained.

Interesting. Will have to fire mine up again this evening and see what it takes to get it to clip. I do know that I got better results going into the clean side of my Carr Slant 6V than I did going into my single-channel JCM 800 with a P-90 equipped SG.

That is weird. So newer versions lack the peak led? Wonder why they would remove that. The pictures on their website show one.

Yeah, mine was clipping like crazy running into my tele that has a overwound humbucker, stacked bucker and single coil bridge through the board and into a mixer. Did some major mixer tweaks, and adjusted the Sovtek a bit and now it sounds fine...It's still a bit odd. Regardless, I'd like a clipping LED on the pedal to make sure it is actually clipping and not a bad chip or something.
Regardless, it's sounding like it should now, so that's encouraging!

Just talked to Curt about removing the clipping led. Said they got rid of it since it only worked on the DSP signal and it lit up well before the pedal was audibly clipping...So they simplified and just got rid of it since it wasn't really doing its job properly.

I remember when I got my first Context and it would clip with that LED, I'm happy they fixed it
