I ordered one for my younger brother today, gonna be his Xmas + Bday gift this year from my girl and I. Plan to upgrade some hardware and throw some custom strings on there. Anything to keep him from constantly nagging to borrow mine.

Question: has anybody ever tried to mount a Mustang pickup switch on a Jaguar or Bass VI-type switch plate? If there's enough throw for three switch positions, there's a brilliant mod to put in one of these guys.

He's got an early 70's Ampeg V4B he hardly uses unless he borrows my Bass VI and no shortage of fuzz pedals. He should be good to go.

Lol, I've got my hands full with one kid already. I'll talk to my bro about it tho, he's still relatively free of responsibility.
I went ahead and ordered some replacement parts last night. Found a great deal on a AVRI Fender offset tremolo assembly with the lock function so that was a must. Also grabbed a Staytrem VI bridge (cuz I LOVE mine) and found some spare Fender stamped gotoh vintage-style tuners in my parts box, def superior than any Squier tuners I've tried. Will need some conversion bushings tho, 10.5mm I'm thinking, ream it if they're a touch big. Lastly, I have some extra string sets I ordered custom awhile back from LaBella for mine, 24-106, gonna throw those on, downtune, and be done with it.
Anything more will be on him but it should be a really good start.

I will be interested to see how these compare to the pawnshop. I got to play a pawnshop one today and was really disappointed with the neck for some reason, it felt very not like a Bass VI neck should at all it was chunky but not in a good way, it did not feel like a $800 instrument.

I've read ppl prefer the Squier over on OSG but that also has to do with it veering towards "vintage correctness". That said, I've only seen a few posts from guys who actually own or have played one already. One of those guys has like six VIs, posted a pic (it's amazing!), most vintage, a PS, and Squier and he placed that Squier like 2nd ir 3rd from the top of his list but who knows. I'm sure comparisons will come flooding in real soon here.Mudfuzz wrote:I will be interested to see how these compare to the pawnshop. The PS for me was a 'well, I can get a VI finally in six months with savings', which I was able to avoid.
Mostly because I could have been just fine with its electronics - if and only if it still had the damn strangle switch. Put it on a push-pull pot, or a switch just for it, or whatever.
But they didn't.
I have not played the vintage ones extensively (or I would have probably robbed gas stations to get one) but I can tell you that the neck is comfortable and makes me happy, but I'm a Jazz Bass guy when it comes down to it on bass planet.
It's big enough that everything works on the VI and I can't say it feels cheap.

Sam ash in Nashville has one on display. I'm in the market for a cheap bass so up
Picked one up to demo in store, and I demo'd the pawnshop too. Amazingly the squire blew the pawnshop out of the water. Nothing about the squire felt cheap, however the pawnshop felt horrid.
