DL4 mods and kits

Post by gunslinger_burrito »

I know there's another thread out there about DL4s, but instead of hijacking it, I'll just ask here....

Are the mods I see out there worth it; the ones that fix the volume drop, add an expression knob, etc? Having done relatively minimal soldering, are they easy to do? And where can I order one? A kit, that is.

Thanks fuzz-brahs. :hello:

volume drop mod is the only one that might push your soldering skills. you have to desolder two SMD resistors if i remember right. i am not aware of any "kits" but most of the mods only require parts you can see, i.e. the pot/led/knob. the volume drop mod is two resistors. the switch replacement just requires four switches, nothing more.
will help you!!

I've never played a dl4 that needed a volume mod...

All the other mods are easy to do. To do the switch mod you do have to get the holes a little bigger. The double presets and lopper switch mods are super easy, you you know how to solder and drill.

Get the parts from tayda, don't buy kits, it's just a wast of money.

The only mod I don't know how hard it is to do is the feedback mod.

I had noticeable volume drop on mine corrected with a mod. That said, the most important mod was upgrading those switches to the more rugged soft touch variety.

As for kits, pretty sure DRASP offers them.

Best mod I ever had for mine was selling it and buying an M9. :surprise:

Seriously though. Not sure how much money gets caught up in the average DL-4 mods. But the M9 is not terribly expensive. It has the same footprint, no volume issues, better switches, will allow multiple delays on at once, more delays, global tap tempo, choice of note value, expression pedal control over any/all parameters, will allow you to toggle back and forth between delays and looper mode while keeping your effects on, looper has twice as much recording time, separate half-time & reverse function... I feel like out of the box it has a one up over any DL-4 mods that I've seen.

I don't doubt it. There are just a lot of more important things I could save and spend $400 for right now!

Come to think of it, I don't really experience any volume issues with it. If anything, It can can go louder than the rest of my stuff if I want it to. The only weird thing it does is darken my tone ever so slightly. Just enough that only I notice, since I play it all the time.

Yea not volume issue here. Although, I like the idea of the looper switch, dual preset switch, and a side wheel for volume.
