Do any of you ILFers ever find anything good at pawn shops? I'm not looking for boutique pedals really but just pedals to mess around with. Are pawn shops worth visiting? Do you call them first to see what they have or what? What I'm getting at is I want cheap pedals to use in my Ohnoho feedback loop pedals (CHK CHK BOOM, Utter Stutter), and hopefully the new Devi Mangler! I'm looking for flangers, choruses, modulation pedals, echoes, trems., delays, loopers, yeah you get the idea now! I live in a decent metro area but I don't know if the pawn shops would yield any good results.

Goodwill is good for speakers and stereo equipment... and organs. Never seen guitar gear, but I'm sure it happens.
I don't know about goodwill and stores like that, but pawn shops and stuff usually carry a couple of pedals no one wants that I\m sure would work in a feedback loop.

The internet and ebay killed all of the good pawn shop deals...you can still find some, but it's kinda rare.
Garage sales are worth a look though...often people will have old fuzzes or guitars that belonged to grandparents and they have no idea what they are worth,
Yah - in my experience, pawn shops are usually better for guitars and amps than effects. But you never know... it depends entirely on your area, and the pawn shop owners.
Garage sales can be great! I picked up my old Rat and Small Stone at one... flea markets, too.
+1 to the previous comment that the internet has killed pawn shops and flea markets for me. The problem now is that is too easy for the seller to look up how much something is actually worth. So you don't get stupid crazy deals anymore where the seller just doesn't know what they have and how much its worth. Which is the only reason I ever bought stuff there. Now every seller is informed and prices things around the same price as what you can get on eBay, so what's the point?

no shipping alot of the time it's not so much the price im looking for, it's just to see what they have i've posted before about the shop that has a little collection of JCs, they also have a vintage pignose, some cool cymbals, some rare 80s drums and an old ibanez with built in reverb, phaser, flange, chorus and fuzz and it's a semi-hollow and they're only asking $899

That's what I was kind of wondering. I guess garage sales are the truly last place to get 'good deals'!

I haven't seen anything in a pawn shop beyond shitty 10 year old Digitech Multi-FX and beat to hell overpriced Boss, DOD, etc. pedals. Also lots of cheap scratched up, rusty-stringed 80's shredder style guitars from Cort, etc.
I have never found anything I wanted though a friend of mine has picked up a few interesting things.
Mostly it's just overpriced junk in my area. I wish I could find some decent stuff.
I live next to a Goodwill store and have never seen any guitar gear except for ancient wizened cheap 3/4 size acoustics.

I don't live anywhere close to a DJM but this summer I was in Vermont and checked out the store that is in a gigantic strip mall city in some small burg ( I think it was Williston) south of Burlington. Some decent used stuff for sure. Better than any pawn shop I have ever visited. Sometimes Music Go Round can have some ok deals on gear that is in decent shape, too.
and they're only asking $899
