Dance/House music

Post by TheAttackman »

so ive been listening to a lot of house/rave music and I figured:
I could do that!
and daaaaaaamn these guys can make some good money :idk:

so I guess my question is what kinda gear would I need?

would a Kaossolator be a good start and then maybe a mini kp-3?

i wanna keep it relatively cheap for now...

thanks :thumb:

Making dance music on a computer is SO GODDAMN FUCKING HARD. Stick to using loops and samplers and other IRL gear. That's my only advice. :thumb:

Yeah i dont know how people can make everything through a computer. Most i hear about is get a midi keyboard and then download all the free VSTs you can find and start tweaking sounds into differnt programs. But the MSTRKRFT board will help you tons they have a thread just about making electro music ill post the link for you. The kaoss pad is more for live performing as a dj in the electro house music sense i think. Check out the Bloody Beetroots they are full of distorted synth lines and put on an amazing show, one dj's while the other samples and puts in extra stuff through either a kaoss pad 3 or the kaossilator and a roland 303. But making money is an understatement ive heard stories of MSTRKRFT being paid 5 grand a night for some shows and they arent even the biggest of the electro djs out now. Most of the people making their own music and playing live are using Abelton and remixing everything on the fly check out Deadmau5 for that kind of live house music he also uses ableton to control his lights. Soulwax live Nite Versions is also good for a mix of live and abelton performing with the drummer using half a standard set and half drum pads and triggers with syths and bass being controlled through abelton. Here are some links that should be able to help you get started.

http://felixcartal.com/ His blog/site if you scan through the pages he goes through how he did some of his remixes and pretty sure there is a runthrough of his studio on there

i would youtube you some video links but the internet at my school is slow so if you want ill link some later on in the day. But if you get the urge look into The Bloody Beetroots, MSTRKRFT, Soulwax, Deadmau5, and Justice Im pretty sure there are links to them in the studio and if not some of the good live footage can give you an idea. Sorry again for this ramble of information hope some of it helps.

All you need is FL Studio (Fruity Loops) to make respectable dance tunes.

1. 4 to the floor beat.
2. Super saw lead.
3. 303 bass.
4. ?????
5. Profit

If you need a freeware alternative to Fruity Loops, take a look at lmms.
