Its cool to see Royal Thunder opening up for Baroness. My old band used to play with them whenever we were in Atlanta. Josh (the guitar player) is such a sweetheart with a nice pedal board to boot.

I missed Royal Thunder but I did get to see Baroness' set at the Knitting Factory Spokane (9-1-13). They fucking kicked ass. The crowd was a bit anemic but the boys blew me away. I didn't realize it till now but Peter Adams' guitar style is one I've been trying to emulate since I started playing heavily. Not necessarily the fast leads as much as the flat picking and arpeggio chords style. I guess John Baizley's style as well.
Definitely solidifying as one of my favorite bands.
I did catch Mindset Evolution's set. I was bored the whole time.

Considering I torrented all their records and they played the show for free. I made sure to buy a shirt.
Being pretty familiar with their material helped me to enjoy the show that much more. Swollen and Halo was probably the best song of the set. Getting close and personal was great too. Rather have seen them at the Knit than on some festival stage in an afternoon slot.
I kept yelling at Pete to play Grad for me, maybe if I had asked nicer. It didn't happen. Just want some musician wants,...some idiot yelling out requests at him.
I do wish John Baizley was a little more present in the mix. He was there,...but Pete had him drowned out most of the night. Perhaps stage volume and being on his side was the issue.
I still had a ball. I've not been to a show in a while. Missed out on Helms Alee and Hooves a few weeks ago and was kicking myself for not attending. I almost didn't go to Baroness. I'm glad I did.
When I get a turntable; I'll definitely be picking up their discog on vinyl.

Honestly I could barely hear John's guitar at all myself. I could blame it on being perfectly in line with Pete's amp, but I also had the PA within like 10 feet of me facing towards me and I could only occasionally make out John through it.
And yeah, Swollen and Halo is my favorite Baroness song. They pretty much played everything I would have wanted to hear aside from one or two Red Album songs.
